Probably the best surprise today, at least for me, is the news that multiple video games based on the Avengers characters are being developed by Square Enix and Marvel Entertainment.
Yesterday, both companies teased an announcement at the exact same time on Twitter and people went nuts speculating what is about to happen.

And then today, January 26, a teaser trailer went live at 7:00AM PST / 10:00AM EST, which you can watch at the end of the article.
Crystal Dynamics (Rise of the Tomb Raider) and Eidos Montreal (Deus Ex: Mankind Divided) are collaborating for The Avengers Project, which is the working title of the first game that will come to fruition from the newly-announced partnership.
But let’s get back to the trailer, which for the moment is CGI. It opens with a pair of cracked glasses – Bruce Banner’s, obviously – and loses focus to reveal a bent vault door, something like only the Hulk could do.
In the next couple scenes, we see Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir, and a broken Iron Man gauntlet, both lying in the ruble. Following up is Captain America’s shield, revealed by a dim light and some sparks.
An ominous voice is heard over the trailer:
“They say the time of heroes is over… that if you’re different, you’re dangerous.”
But the tone is quickly changed to something more optimistic:
“But I know the truth… the world will always need heroes. We just need to reassemble.”

Something is definitely up with our beloved Marvel heroes. But what?
Between the shots, you can see the logos of the companies involved in this daring project. And notice that at the end of the announcement trailer, the A logo of The Avengers is shattered and the pieces are put back together, ahem, reassembled.
At this point, few details are known about the project, and the description provided by Marvel doesn’t tell us much either:
“The Avengers project is being designed for gamers worldwide and will be packed with all the characters, environments, and iconic moments that have thrilled longtime fans of the franchise. Featuring a completely original story, it will introduce a universe gamers can play in for years to come. More details on The Avengers project and other games will be announced in 2018.”
Yes, you read that right, radio silence until 2018, which seems like a good release window for the first of the Avengers games.
We say that because Avengers: Infinity War, the next entry in the Avengers series of films is set to be released on May 4, 2018. What a time to be alive!
Will it live up to expectations? Will the game be on par with The Avengers movie (the first one, yes)? Tell us what you think.
Ooooooh. Now that is exciting! The implication seems to be a MMORPG, and Square Enix hands down are the best MMO makers since Verant (before Sony got involved with that and ruined it anyway)
