Our Skyrim Sovngarde walkthrough explains how to complete this specific quest from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
Sovngarde is the fifth quest of the last act featured in Skyrim, and one of the quests that must be completed in order to beat the game.
The quest begins after the event of the fourth quest, named The World-Eaters Eyrie and continues the games story.
Sovngarde is a main-quest and is shorter than The World-Eaters Eyrie, since there are only several areas that must be explored.
This quest is focused on the heros search for Alduin who escaped during the first encounter, and he retreated to Sovngarde where he consumes the souls of the dead heroes in order to recover after the fight.
The Skyrim Sovngarde walkthrough offers tips, tricks and hints that can help those who play The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
The first objective of the Sovngarde quest appears as soon as you enter the portal that takes you to this area.
Objective 1: Find out how to defeat Alduin
When you enter the realm of Aetherius, you will see Alduin far away.
This is his realm and the mighty dragon awaits you.
Proceed forward following the path to the north, between the mammoth tusks and you will reach the Shadowed Vale.
Make sure you use Clear Skies if the mist around you becomes too thick.
Follow the path marked by the runic stones and advance until you see a terrified Stormcloak soldier.
Talk to him and listen carefully to his story. Eventually he will ask you to take him to Shors Hall. No matter how you answer the quests objective changes.
Objective 2: Gain admittance to the Hall of Valor
After you talk to the soldier, use Clear Skies and look to the north. In the distance, you will see the silhouette of a large whale skeleton.
It is the Hall of Valor and your next destination.
Proceed forward following the path and expect to encounter several dead souls that attack you. Some of them were killed by you during the game while others died a long time ago.
Move towards the steps that take you to the whalebone bridge and you will meet a new character: Tsun.
The Nords believe that Tsun is the greatest warrior of all times, and according to the Tamriel history, he is Stendarrs brother.
When you approach him, he will ask you what you are doing in Sovngarde. At this point you have two options but only one allows you to live.
Option 1: Ignore Tsun and cross the bridge. If you proceed forward, Tsun will catch you on the bridge no matter how fast you are. He will try to stop you and you will be forced to fight him (and die), leap (and die) or to stop and talk to him.
Option 2: Talk to Tsun and tell him that you wish to enter the Hall of Valor and this is your birthright, since you are a Dragonborn.
Tsun agrees and he greets you with several verses, however his response is different depending on the side-quests you have completed. Additionally, to enter the hall, Tsun asks you to complete the warriors test and he advances towards you wielding his axe.
How to defeat Tsun in Sovngarde
Even if Tsun is considered the greatest warrior, there is a fast way to defeat him.
Dont forget that you are a Dragonborn and you have some skills that you have learned.
Probably the most effective attack against Tsun is the Fire Breath Shout. Cast it against Tsun and then strike him.
Dont forget to avoid his attacks by moving back or by blocking them.
After several attacks, Tsun stops admitting that you fought well, allowing you to cross the bridge.
Move forward but make sure you dont fall off the bridge.
Objective 3: Talk to the heroes of Sovngarde
As you cross the bridge, you see two large doors in front of you. Enter the Hall of Valor and look around you, because here you will see the greatest Skyrim heroes.
One of them, Ysgramor, greets you and tells you that the heroes you are looking for await your command. These heroes are Gormlaith the Fearless, Hakon the Valiant, and Felldir the Old.
You should remember them from the vision you had during the game. They fought Alduin in the past, and now they are ready to help you.
Even if you can skip all dialogues with the characters inside the hall, it is a good idea to talk to them. Here you will meet:
Erlendr the Quick Ulfgars friend, who was cursed by a mage named Grimkell, and was turned into a stone.
Olaf One-Eye The king who managed to capture Numinex, the dragon, and kept him in Dragonsreach.
Jurgen Windcaller Who is respected by the Greybeards because he established the Way of the Voice.
Hunroor the Agile Ulfgars companion who has suffered the same fate as Erlendr the Quick.
Ulfgar the Unending A strange barbarian hero who found his way home.
When you are ready to proceed, locate Gormlaith Golden-Hilt, Hakon One-Eye, and Felldir the Old and talk to them.
You will find out that the mist you saw outside is in fact produced by Alduin and it is more than just a simple fog It is Alduins shield; however, with the help of the ancient heroes, the mist can be removed.
The Dragonslayer quest begins now and the Sovngarde quest as well as the Skyrim Sovngarde walkthrough ends.
