Steve Rogers Drops His Shield and Identity in Avengers: Infinity War

Steve Rogers Drops His Shield and Identity in Avengers: Infinity War

Exactly one week before the release of Captain America: Civil War Digital HD, directors Anthony Russo and Joe Russo drop the bomb confirming that Steve Rogers will not be Captain America anymore.

If you watched Captain America: Civil War, then you already know that after the epic fight between Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and Captain America (Chris Evans), Steve Rogers drops his shield.

According to an interview for The Huffington Post, Anthony Russo and Joe Russo announced that Steve Rogers will never pick up that shield again, thus he also dropped his identity:

“I think him dropping that shield is him letting go of that identity. [It’s] him admitting that certainly the identity of Captain America was in conflict with the very personal choice that he was making.”

This; however, doesn’t mean that we won’t see Captain America again, since there are two Avengers movies scheduled for production.

The first one is Avengers: Infinity War which will release on May 4, 2018, while the second one will hit theaters on May 3, 2019.

Writer Christopher Markus who worked on Captain America: The First Avenger, Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War, will also deliver the screenplays for Avengers: Infinity War and the second (untitled) Avengers movie.

Following the announcement on Cap’s retirement, Christopher Markus said that Steve Rogers will continue to help the Avengers in their fight against Thanos.

Fans already issued a series of theories about Steve Rogers who might return in the upcoming movies as The Nomad.

If you are not familiar with the Marvel Comics Universe, The Nomad is the identity adopted by Steve Rogers after he decides to abandon his Captain America title.

Steve becomes The Nomad when he finds out that the government and his leaders (the president in particular) are involved in terrorist activities.

While this seems like a plausible theory regarding a possible return of Steve Rogers, it remains just a theory which wasn’t confirmed.

Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War will be available on Amazon Video starting September 2, 2016 and it will cost $19.99.

The Blu-Ray can also be pre-ordered on Amazon for $19.96 and it will be released September 13, 2016, while Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War 3D costs $22.99.
