The Gears of War 4 collectibles featured in the latest videogame developed by The Coalition are similar to those found in the previous games from the Gears of War franchise. They take many forms, from documents to posters, while the COG Tags are also back.
The collectibles are saved as soon as you pick them up, meaning you don’t have to hit a checkpoint to save your progress. Although you can see how many you have collected in the Pause menu, in order to see more info about them, or see which one are you missing, you have to navigate to the War Journal section in the Main Menu.
You can earn four achievements for finding all 50 Gears of War 4 collectibles: Collector, Pack Rat, Completist and Remember the Fallen, the last being awarded for finding all 10 COG Tags collectibles.
The campaign of Gears of War 4 spans across 5 Acts, each with a different number of chapters that can be replayed at any time in case you miss a collectible. Therefore, we divided our Gears of War 4 collectibles guide into five parts, one for every Act.
Act I includes 5 story chapters and features 17 Gears of War 4 collectibles, 3 of them being COG Tags. It has the highest number of collectibles in the entire game.
The first part of the act commemorates the twenty-fifth anniversary of the end of the Locust War and thus you will reenact some of the battles fought during the war. This serves as a tutorial for Gears of War 4.
The other part follows JD, Del and Kait, the new protagonists of the game, in their attempt to steal a manufacturing device known as a Fabricator in order to restore power to their village. Although they succeed, the First Minister Jinn relentlessly tries to hunt them down using an army of bots called DeeBees.
Since the first act features a large amount of Gears of War 4 collectables it is recommended to follow the guide below to find them during your first playthrough.
Apart from the text guide you can use the included video guide from our Gears of War 4 YouTube playlist, which shows how to get all Gears of War 4 Act I collectibles.
ACT I: Chapter 0 – Prologue
UIR Security Report
After you throw a grenade in the bunker with the turret, open the door and cross the courtyard to enter another bunker.
On the desk you can find the first collectible in Gears of War 4.
COG Tag – T. Thubron
Don’t leave the area yet. Exit the bunker and follow the path. Look behind the stone blocks on the left to find a dead soldier holding the first COG Tag in the game.
UIR Anti-Cog Pamphlet
Follow your team through the locked doors and then through another set of doors that lead into a courtyard filled with enemies. Turn right as you enter the courtyard to spot a poster collectible on the wall.
The fourth collectible in the Prologue can be found when you reach the scene with the giant Corpser monster. On the left side of the street there is a toll booth.
Head inside and pick up the stack of newspapers.
COG Tag – G. Wagner
Head outside the toll booth and cross the street. Climb the stairs and then check behind the column on the left to find another COG Tag next to a dead soldier.
COG Tag – J. Beckman
When you reach the next battle scene you have to climb a ladder to progress the mission.
Instead of doing that go behind the vehicle to pick up the final COG Tag collectible lying on the ground.
Bernie’s Last Will and Testament
Now go to the ladder but don’t climb it yet. Turn around and pick up the collectable that’s on top of the table.
ACT I: Chapter 1 – The Raid
Rubble Reclamation Manifest
At the very beginning of the chapter you have to deal with the first Windflare in the game. Shoot the wooden barricade that is holding the pipes in order to clear a path. Now head towards the crane vehicle until you reach a metallic ramp.
Immediately turn around to spot the collectible next to some crates behind the fence.
Shepherd Protection Pamphlet
After you reach the safe point you will see a giant builder robot. Head inside the room to your left and then into the next one, but don’t drop down! Go past the red welding bot to find the pamphlet collectible sitting on a large crate.
Settlement 5 Resident Assignment List
After you eliminate all enemies in the second ring of the town turn towards the gate numbered “2” (you should see the tower in the distance). Head inside the building to your right and pick up the Gears of War 4 collectible from one of the shelves.
COG Birthing Pamphlet
Head inside the Maternity Annex and follow the path until you trigger a cutscene. After that cross the next room and then look on the coffee table between the two green chairs to find the pamphlet collectible.
Windflare Lockdown Procedure
You fight more robots as you exit the maternity. After that, climb the stairs to the left (across the tower building) to get the final collectible in the chapter. You will find it on a wall next to some double doors.
ACT I: Chapter 2 – In and Out
You can find only one Gears of War 4 collectible in Chapter 2. After using the elevator enter the Fabricator room. Go left and look for a glowing computer console against the wall.
ACT I: Chapter 3 – New Friends
Shepherd Safety Pamphlet
In the courtyard with the statues you have to fight a few waves of DeeBees. From where you entered the courtyard, climb down the stairs to your right and then turn left to go around the metal crates. Climb the short set of steps and you’ll find the only collectible in the chapter next to a stone bench.
ACT I: Chapter 4 – A Few Snags
Village Windflare Lockdown Procedure
When you spawn after carrying the Fabricator, the collectible should be right in front of you. Go around the rightmost column to find it hanged next to some gardening tools.
Village Mare Breeding Record
From the previous collectible turn around and go down the stairs into the main area. Head right, through a garden, and climb the stairs to spot the collectable next to a couple of wood piles.
Book Inscribed to Kait
Go back in the main area and cross the small bridge that is slightly to your right. Head towards the barn and use the stairs (this is straight across the starting point with the Fabricator). The final Gears of War 4 collectible in Act I is between a wooden chair and a barrel.
