Anime fans, rejoice: the My Hero Academia video game will soon be released stateside.
This year’s Jump Festa brought a multitude of gifts that included a promise from Bandai: My Hero Academia: One’s Justice will be released in the US.
My Hero Academia (Boku no Hero Academia) is a comedy adventure manga series by esteemed creator Kouhei Horikoshi. The series has dominated the current Jump circle of titles. There are currently over 10 million copies of the manga in circulation. Taking inspiration from both American superhero comics and more recent Japanese shounen manga, My Hero Academia features a large cast. These characters – among other things – serve as vessels to examine heroic tropes in both Western and Eastern literature.
The trailer features the manga’s central protagonist, Izuki Midoriya, facing off with a heretofore unseen villain. Official game footage has yet to be released, but according to Bandai’s announcement, One’s Justice will be a “battle action” style game with a cel shaded CGI aesthetic that evokes the animation style of the show. Players will be treated to environments they can plow through and utilize to attack, as well as a central villain with hands for a face. Bandai has yet to announce a release date for the title.
