Mass Effect: Andromeda is the first Mass Effect game in which you can craft and name your own weapons.

This was confirmed on Twitter earlier by the game’s lead designer Ian S. Frazier:

In Mass Effect Andromeda, you can use actual melee weapons like swords and hammers. Mass Effect 3 used melee weapons in multiplayer, but it only had the Omni Blade in the single player – plus the Biotic powers. The Omni-Tool will return in Andromeda and it will be upgradable.

Frazier also confirmed that the melee weapons will have a dedicated slot, just like regular weapons, which is exciting news for players who prefer a melee play-style.

Imagine having a Hammer called Thor’s Hammer or The Ban Hammer. Or you can get “creative” and steal some weapon names from Destiny.

Justin Perez, the senior designer, bragged with the names he gave to his weapons:

The crafting system was borrowed from Dragon Age: Inquisition, another role-playing game developed by BioWare.

Personally, I’m very excited to see how these changes will translate in the final game. How about you?

In the meantime, check out the collector’s Editions announced for the game. Their price is steep, so if you want just the standard game you can pre-order it now on Amazon for $59.99.

If you can’t wait to play the game, read our article about how you can sign up for the Mass Effect Andromeda multiplayer beta. The process is a bit tedious, but it’s worth it if you are accepted.

Mass Effect: Andromeda will be released on March 21, 2017 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.Mass Effect Andromeda Melee Hit with Omni Blade
