Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII The Angel Of Valhalla Walkthrough

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII The Angel Of Valhalla is the first main-quest in the third area of the video game, and it is triggered when you enter The Wildlands, after you defeat Snow by finishing A Solitary Patron.

The Angel Of Valhalla is a short quest that ends with a battle against the Chocobo Eater, which must be won by Lightning in order to save a white Chocobo.

The Angel Of Valhalla is an important quest, because it allows you to unlock the second in line, named Healing An Angel.

Once both of them are completed, you will get a Chocobo, meaning that you will be able to move faster.

Since The Wildlands is a vast area, both main-quests should be addressed immediately, before attempting other side-quests, since without a Chocobo you will waste time.

The following walkthrough reveals the fastest way to complete The Angel Of Valhalla quest in Lightning Returns: FF XIII.

Quest Details

Description: “The Wildlands is nature’s last refuge in a dying world. When Lightning first arrives here, she hears a strange voice, whispering on the wind. It speaks of an Angel of Valhalla, and an encounter ordained. An Angel of Valhalla? Lightning has no idea whose voice it is, but given her own past in Valhalla, it might lead worth following. She resolves to ask the locals if any of them have heard of this angel.”

Quest Walkthrough

When you are ready to begin the quest, take the train from Luxerion’s South Station, and travel to The Wildlands.

Watch the cutscene, and then try to leave the train station, to trigger another one showing two villagers who can offer additional information on the Angel of Valhalla. As the events unfold, you will receive your first objective, being asked to visit the Canopus Farms and find Dr. Gysahl.

Open your map and notice the blue exclamation mark that appears south-east from your location, because it shows the location of the Canopus Farms. Sprint to the farm, without engaging any enemies, and when you enter the sub-area, look for a NPC wearing a white jacket and standing near a blue cottage.

Talk to him and he will tell you that if you want to find the Chocobo, you should talk to the villagers in Canopus Farm. To save time, from your current location, turn around and on the opposite side of the farm you will see a NPC, very close to the entrance.

Observe that he has red hair and that he is a woodcutter. His name is Seven. Talk to him as well and he will tell you that if you wish to find the white Chocobo you must locate the Chocobo Eater. Open your map again and you will see a new exclamation mark NE from Canopus Farms, in the area known as City of Ruins.

Note: Make sure you follow the southern path to enter The City of Ruins, because the northern one is blocked and you won’t be able to jump over a hill.

Next, after you cross the path in City Of Ruins, you will see a large green demon, on the right side of the area. It is the Chocobo Eater you have to defeat.

The Chocobo Eater is a redoubtable opponent, but as long as you strike the demon with lightning-based attacks, or physical attacks, you should be able to stagger it. Activate the Overclock ability once you stagger the Chocobo Eater and follow it by physical attacks or magic attacks.

The Chocobo Eater’s vulnerabilities to fire and ice are halved. Now, that you defeated the Chocobo Eater and saved the injured bird, Dr. Gysahl will appear and transport your companion to Canopus Farms.

You should return there as well, and talk to Dr. Gysahl to complete the main-quest and start the second one, named Healing An Angel.
