Woe to the Vanquished is a side-quest featured in Witcher 2 Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition.
Completing this side-quest awards you additional experience points which allow you to level up faster.
Quest Description
An easy victory behind them, Foltests soldiers grew cocky. They brazenly terrorized the towns inhabitants. Geralt watched their acts of cruelty with growing disgust.
When Geralt saw a soldier shoot a fleeing woman, it proved the last straw and the witcher intervened. He had often taken the side of the oppressed, and this time was no different.
Clearly something very wrong was going inside the house from which the woman had fled.
When to start
Immediately after you talk to Foltest, during the main-quest called To the Temple.
Walkthrough
To begin this quest, descend the hill, on your way to the village, trying to find the secret passage inside the temple grounds.
When you enter the village, go west and you will see a woman coming out from a house. Eventually, the woman is killed by an archer.
Enter the said house and you will see two soldiers threatening two citizens. Talk to the soldiers and you will have to make a decision. You can persuade them, by telling them to get out, because the dragon may return, or you can politely ask them to leave the citizens alone. You can also become aggressive and tell them that if they dont leave, they will die.
The choice is yours, and it will not affect the main story.
After the soldiers leave, talk to the villagers, exit the house and turn left. You will see more soldiers trying to burn down a house. Approach their commander (the one wearing a helmet), and ask him to let the citizens go.
Unfortunately, he will attack you; therefore get ready to fight him.
Combat Tip: The Quen Sign is more than enough while fighting the Temerian Commander, because you dont have to kill him. When his health drops, he will flee.
Now, enter the house the Temerians wanted to burn, and talk to the citizens inside.
You can ask them to pay you, or you can just tell them to be careful in the future. Both answers will end the Woe to the Vanquished quest.
