No matter who you pick as your ally at the end of the first chapter, when you play the second Witcher 2 Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition act, you will come across the main quest named The Eternal Battle.
It is important to know that the events that occur during this quest are different based on the choice you made in the first act of the game, meaning that if you allied with Roche your tasks are different, than those that must be solved if you allied with Iorveth.
Because of this, The Eternal Battle can be divided in two parts.
Iorveths Path
If you sided with Iorveth, The Eternal Battle is activated after the main quest called The War Council, which must be completed in Vergen.
Quest Description
“In the world of Wraiths, only those relics the ghosts had a connection to in life have any meaning. After conferring with Philippa Eilhart, Geralt ascertained that he would need items symbolizing ideas linked to war, specifically, objects representing hatred, courage, faith and death.
The witcher thus embarked on a search for the Duns Banners standard, believed to be the symbol of death and the sword that had belonged to the infamous commander named Vandergrift, purported to symbolize hatred.
The sorceress promised to find a medallion symbolizing faith and a fragment of suit of armor that had belonged to the brave Seltkirk.”

Walkthrough
After you receive this quest, you have to visit Philippa at her HQs in northern Vergen. Ask her about the artifact and make sure that your discussion remains focused on this subject.
After the dialogue, you will start two new main quests: Death Symbolized and Hatred Symbolized. If you manage to complete both of them, you can return to Philippa and continue this quest.
For now, focus on finishing Death Symbolized, then A Matter of Life and Death (which automatically ends Hatred Symbolized).
When you complete these quests, you can return to Philippa who has the remaining items needed to lift the curse on the battlefield. Talk to her and she will tell you what you have to do.
Make the necessary preparations, then head south and cross the burned village. Turn right when you reach the elven camp, and then enter the mist you have crossed earlier in the game, to find Henselt (Royal Blood quest).
As you enter the battlefield, a cutscene starts and you will have to play as an Aedirn ghost. Your first task is to kill a Draugr, which spawns on the battlefield during the cutscene. Focus on him and land strong attacks to take out the standard bearer.
The actions are interrupted by another cutscene and you will receive a new objective. This time you play as a Kaedweni soldier and you have to inform the commander that the standard was captured.
The next phase requires your coordination, because you wont encounter any enemies but you must reach the commander while arrows fall around you. The trick is to move from one barricade to another and avoid the arrows. Pay close attention to the battle horn, which informs you when the arrows have been launched, and take cover immediately.
When you reach the commander a new cutscene starts, then you will play as Seltkirk. A new objective also appears on your screen. Your goal, as Seltkirk, is to kill the Kaedweni general. Push forward and fight your way on the battlefield to reach the marked objective.
Combat Tip: Land quick attacks against un-shielded soldiers and heavy attacks against those wearing a shield. Dont forget to parry and to dodge left and right.
When you approach the general, you will have a quick discussion with Seltkirk, and then you will re-gain control over Geralt.
The fight against the next opponents, depends on how you developed your character; however, remember that even the ghosts can be stunned by Geralts Yrden Sign. While the standard bearer is a weak opponent, the general can be quite challenging, even if he is a slow boss.
The trick to survive this boss battle is to keep your eyes on the ground, and when he issues his orders, such as “Arrows!” or “Trebuchets!”, you should start moving around to avoid the flaming boulders and arrows.
Again, the Yrden Sign is your best choice against the Kaedweni general. If you manage to stun him, then you cant lose the battle, unless you rush in and dont avoid his sweeping attacks. Lure him towards your traps, and then hit him from behind.
After you beat the Kaedweni general, a new cutscene starts and you will play as a priest. The final goal is to lead your units to the kings position. Practically, all you have to do is to descend the hill and avoid the boulders, until you reached the waypoint.
When you get near it, a new cutscene begins and you will return to Vergen. The Eternal Battle ends and Vergen Besieged begins after you talk to Philippa and describe what you saw. Returning Memories was also updated.
