The Barricade is another main-quest included in the Witcher 2 Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition Prologue.
The Barricade continues the events that occurred during the siege of the La Valettes Castle.
When Roche interrupts your story, you will have to tell him everything you remember about the assault, after you reached the castles walls. This specific quest is connected with the previous one, named By the King’s Will.
Follow Foltests orders and jump down to reach the inner courtyard. Your task is to use the ballista and take out the tower that blocks your way. Inside the courtyard, kill the knights and secure the area.
Combat Tip: Yrden Sign is very useful if you wish to take out the knights faster. Immobilize them, and then finish them off with a series of quick attacks.
After you clear the courtyard, use the ballista, but stay alert because more knights will attack you.
Dispatch them quickly then aim the ballista. Kill the next wave of soldiers, then fire the bolt. Now, head north and use the stairs to reach the first level of the wall. Climb the wooden platform to the right, then the wall and find Foltest.
In the next tower, you will have to fight against more soldiers and Count Etcheverry.
If you helped Foltest to aim the ballista in the camp (during the previous quest), then Etcheverry is already dead, making your fight a lot easier; however dont forget to dodge and use Yrden Sign to trap your enemies.
Combat Tip: Quen Sign is also useful during this phase, if the enemies surround you.
Clear the area and stay near Foltest, who will lead the attack. Eventually, you will reach a dead end, but the soldiers will destroy the wooden gate that blocks your way. Behind it, more knights await and they are more powerful.
Combat Tip: Yrden Sign plays a vital role in this fight, especially if you play the game on hard difficulty.
After you clear the area, follow Foltest and climb the ladders on the wall.
Advance and you will reach a new tower, protected by archers. Aryan La Valette commands them, and you must deal with him. There is only one way to go and you must reach the tower as soon as possible.
The Quen Sign offers additional protection, against the arrows coming from the tower. Make sure you use it, then sprint towards, killing every soldier you encounter. When you reach the top of the tower you will face Aryan La Valette. During the dialogue you have two choices:
Option 1: Surrender and save your men. Aryan La Valette lives, along with his soldiers.
Option 2: As you wish. You will fight Aryan La Valette, offering him an honorable death.
NOTE: The decision you make at this point will have a direct effect on the main quest named The Dungeons of the La Valettes.
If you decide to fight Aryan La Valette take out his knights first, and focus on the noble after you clear the area.
Combat Tip: During this boss battle make sure you use the Yrden and Aard Signs. After you stun Aryan La Valette, take him out quickly.
Aryans defeat will trigger a new cutscene and Roche will interrupt you again. The Barricade quest ends now. Ask Roche what happened to the dragon and you will start a new main quest named Trial By Fire.
