Titanfall 2’s developer, Respawn Entertainment, announced that the game’s next free DLC will include a brand new multiplayer mode and two new maps to test out.

The new team-based mode is called “Live Fire”. It is a lightning fast round-based best of five mode in which teams of six Pilots are pit against each other (no Titans are allowed). Each round lasts one minute and there are no respawns.

A round can be won by eliminating all players in the opposing team or by holding a neutral flag after the timer runs out.

The studio announced that Live Fire is a mode “that brings competitive, close quarter combat to the forefront”. They also wrote that the new mode will help players to “hone those teamwork and mobility skills”.

To complement the new multiplayer mode, the next Titanfall 2 free DLC will introduce two maps: Stacks and Meadow. The maps are playable only in the Live Fire playlist, and they were designed specifically for this mode, being tighter and more intense than previous maps.

In addition to the new mode and maps, Respawn revealed they will add a new Coliseum map called Columns, a new Pilot execution move, and many new Commander intros for each Faction.

Moreover, the developers are updating the playlist interface after hearing the community feedback, deciding that “having game modes split between two screens is not an ideal user experience”.

While they said the facelift will be in the next content drop on consoles, they hinted it might be available earlier on PC for testing.

The new interface will allow players to create their own “mixtapes” of multiplayer modes. “Would you like to match in just Attrition, Amped Hardpoint, and Last Titan Standing? Simply select the modes you want and hit play.”, Respawn wrote.

All the content in this update will be free for PC, PS4, and Xbox One players. It seems that the studio kept their promise that all DLC post-launch will cost nothing.

The DLC doesn’t have a release date yet, according to titanfall.com, but the studio promised they will soon reveal the “roadmap” for the next couple months of content, which will have new weapons, modes, and maps (with some remasters of maps from the original Titanfall).
