The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Walkthrough – Act 2 – Alduin’s Wall

Alduin’s Wall is the third main-quest of the second Skyrim act. The action continues the events started in A Cornered Rat, after you find Esbern.

During Alduin’s Wall quest, you will visit the following locations: Karthspire, Riften, The Ragged Flagon, The Ratway, The Ratway Warrens, Riverwood, Sleeping Giant Inn, Sky Haven Temple and Alduin’s Wall.

Some of the characters you will interact with are Delphine, Esbern and Orgnar. Completing Alduin’s Wall is the only way to advance in Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

The following guide explains how to finish Alduin’s Wall, offering additional information regarding each objective, point of interest and other tips and tricks that can be used by those who play Skyrim.

The first objective of this quest appears during your conversation with Esbern.

Objective 1: Escort Esbern to Riverwood

Make sure you ask Esbern if he knows the way out, and follow him.

Follow the stairs down until you reach the sewers.

NOTE: It is important to know that Esbern is a very powerful wizard, because when you reach the sewers you will be attacked. Do not pay attention to Esbern because he can handle the Thalmor guards. Try to focus on your enemies.

When you reach the sewers, you will encounter several guards. Kill them and then go upstairs and you will enter Ratway Warrens.

Kill more soldiers and then go west and exit through the door that opens.

Now, go north and follow the stairs up and you will enter the dining room.

Go south and traverse the balcony, and then advance to the superior balcony.

Go west until you reach Ragged Flagon, and then west again, and north. At this point, you should be in a room used by inhabitants to taste the mead. Go north and you will reach a bridge that must be lowered.

Search for the lever and cross the bridge, and then move through the next corridor that leads you to Riften.

Now you should be able to Fast Travel to Riverwood.

Find Delphine at the Sleeping Giant Inn.

Objective 2: Talk to Esbern

Delphine is very happy to see you and Esbern. She will take you to her cellar and you will find additional information regarding Alduin’s Wall.

At one point, Delphine will place a book on the table (Annals of the Dragonguard). You can read it if you wish, or you can leave it there.

You will find out that, Alduin’s Wall is located inside the Sky Haven Temple, and that the wall contains important history facts engraved by the ancient Blades. Eventually, the wall may also explain how to kill Alduin.

Objective 3: Gain entrance to Sky Haven Temple

During your dialogue, you will also find that the location described by Esbern is similar to a place known by Delphine. It is inside the Karth River Canyon, and it is called Karthspire.

When the conversation ends, Delphine asks you if you want to travel with them or alone.

You can Fast Travel to the nearest location using your map, or you can travel with your companions, on foot. This will take longer but you will earn additional experience.

If you want to travel alone, or if you lose Esbern or Delphine during your journey, they will wait for you near the Karthspire Forsworn Camp.

When you reach this location, you should know that during the next part, you must fight against the Forsworn.

Unlike the enemies you have fought until now, the Forsworn are great warriors and mages. Don’t worry about your companions, because they can’t be killed. Focus on your fights instead.

When you reach the camp, look for a cave entrance and proceed forward.

Advance until you reach the ascension chamber and to the west, you will see an entrance, high above.

To release the bridges that cross the chamber, you have to solve a small puzzle. Near a dirt ramp, you will see three pillars.

On each pillar, in the middle, is an engraved tile. To lower the first bridge, you must rotate the titles, so that the Dragonborn signs face the exterior and the arrows point east to west.

The Dragonborn sign is the one that looks like two dragon heads and an arrow .

When the bridge to the south lowers, cross it and wait for Esbern before stepping on the tiles you see on the floor.

NOTE: If you step on a wrong tile, you will die.

Make sure that you step only on those tiles that have the Dragonborn sign on them, and when you reach the other side, approach the carved dragon and pull the lever to lower the second bridge.

Go north, cross the bridges and you will reach the entrance to the Sky Haven Temple.

You will see that Esbern runs forward to a large head carved in the stone.

Listen to what he has to say, then look on the floor and you will observe several round carvings.

Stand on them and activate the Blood Seal. When your blood reaches the ground, the door that grants access to Alduin’s Wall will open.

Objective 4: Learn the secret of Alduin’s Wall

As soon as the door opens, Esbern approaches the wall and starts his investigation.

In the center of the wall is the true prize, which is revealed by Esbern. To defeat Alduin you need to learn a special Shout.

When Delphine asks you if you know the Shout, tell her that the Greybeards may know it.

Delphine asks you to visit the Greybeards and tell them about your recent discovery.

At this point, the next main-quest, called The Throat of the World begins.

NOTE: The words engraved on Alduin’s Wall are:

“When misrule takes its place at the eight corners of the world,

When the Brass Tower walks and Time is reshaped,

When the thrice-blessed fail and the Red Tower trembles,

When the Dragonborn Ruler loses his throne, and the White Tower falls,

When the Snow Tower lies sundered, kingless, bleeding,

The World-Eater wakes, and the Wheel turns upon the Last Dragonborn.”
