Metro Last Light

Metro Last Light Echoes Diary Pages Locations

Metro Last Light Echoes (the eighth chapter in the video game) begins when Artyom and Pavel reach the surface after they crossed the catacombs in Torchlight.

There’s only one obstacle between Artyom and the Theater, the surface, and that’s a very dangerous place for any human being.

Even if the mission features surface sequences, the hidden Diary Pages collectables can be found indoors, so those who follow the next Metro Last Light collectibles guide shouldn’t have any problem in finding them.

Chapter 8 Description

A PATH THROUGH THE LIGHT

“We’re almost at the Theater now. The Metro entrance should be pretty close. But however small the distance is, we’ll have to cover it on the surface.

And there, every step you take could well be your last.”

Diary Page #1

When the chapter begins, check the bar on your left. The first Metro Last Light Echoes Diary Page is sitting right there, next to a supplies box.

This is the tenth Asrtyom’s hidden diary page in the videogame, so if you grabbed all the previous ones you unlock the First Draft achievement/trophy.

“Since the day we ended up in the Metro, I have gone up to the surface only a few times. The background radiation is too high here, so frequent ventures out translate into grave illnesses to those brave enough to attempt them.

One has to stay constantly alert on the surface. The pollution tends to be uneven; there are hotspots which could dole out a lethal dose of radiation in a matter of minutes, while some places could actually be habitable if not for the monsters and unbearable gloominess. The eye can’t discern between a safe place and a hotspot; you have to use a Geiger counter. You can’t go out to the surface without a gas mask, either.

We used to own the Earth. Today, although I still remember that summer day in the Gardens with my mom, I almost can’t believe it actually happened. I can’t believe I used to live in one of those tall houses and could look up at the sky every day.

It’s as if Metro was always my home… But I still miss that world we lost.”

Diary Page #2

Next, you need to cross the surface with Pavel until you reach a downed plane that you access via the emergency hatch. Walk slowly inside the plane until you have a vision on how the plane crashed.

After that, go to Pavel and look down to you left, right next to him, to find the second Metro Last Light Diary Page in Echoes.

“The Red Line is one of the biggest and strongest states in the Metro, occupying almost a whole line. But for as long as I can remember, the Reds always used to preach that their goal was the installation of communism throughout the whole of the Metro, the restoration of a destroyed state that used to be based on the ideals of equality and justice.

The problem is, the independent stations keep their distance from the Red Line as best as they can, which means they can’t restore the Red State without strife. Yes, the Reds are no angels, but what the Nazis are doing is regular horror.

And I am happy to have an ally like Pavel. Even if he’s Red.”

Head outside the plane and follow the path to find the entrance to the theater station in order to trigger the Bolshoi chapter.

Metro Last Light Torchlight Diary Pages Locations

Metro Last Light Chapter 7, or Torchlight, starts right after Artyom rescues Pavel in the Facility.

Because Artyom rescued Pavel, he promises to get Artyom as close as possible to his objective, the Polis.

But first they need to reach the Theater, and the only available path is through the catacombs.

Given the fact that Torchlight is slightly longer than the previous chapters and it also lacks a good lighting, players should use the collectables guide below to find Artyom’s hidden diary pages in the first playthrough.

Chapter 7 Description

THROUGH THE DARKNESS

“I dragged Pavel out of the noose, and he says he’s going to take me as close to Polis as possible. Then I’ll contact the Order and report on everything that has happened.

The path to the legendary Theater lies through the catacombs. I’ve never been here before, and without my new friend I’d probably be completely lost. I hope he knows the way.”

Diary Page #1

Follow Pavel until you find an elevator. When the elevator stops, you reach another tunnel. In this tunnel you eventually find a train car that is blocking the path. Pavel gives you a boost to climb the car, and after you help him you are attacked by a spider.

Once you get back on your feet, look down, on your right side, to find the first Metro Last Light Torchlight Diary Page (the eighth Note).

“The tunnels and stations of the Metro are but a part of the subterranean construction projects carried out in the long ages of Moscow’s history. The Dukes would build secret passages and hideouts, the tsars would construct catacombs and reliquaries – and even then, centuries ago they would routinely stumble upon even older passages created in times immemorial, and perhaps even not by humans…

Nobody really knows what’s there around the Metro stations, above them or below them. There are no maps, for the cartographers never come back from their expeditions… And those strange, nightmarish creatures inhabiting the catacombs – were they really born of radiation?

Could they have always lived there?

Perhaps they would just avoid men before, but now, feeling that our end is near, that we’re no longer the masters of the Earth, they got braver and now approach us closer and closer to finally jump us and feed on use while we’re still warm?”

Diary Page #2

Next, stick closely to Pavel until you reach a door with an electric lock. Pavel tells you to find the fusebox, so follow the waypoint to find a locked door that leads to a room with a red light (where the fusebox is).

From this point, head right, and then around the corner to your left to discover an alcove (this is exactly around the corner, if you head further in the room you eventually reach the area behind the locked door and the fusebox).

Next to a dead body in the alcove is the second Metro Last Light Diary Page in Torchlight.

“Pavel was captured in the vicinity of the Gardens, just like me. I wonder, what could he have been doing out there? What the hell were all of them doing out there? I think I’ll hit him with that question – later.

Right now we just need to stay alive and break out of the Reich borders.”

After you disable the electric lock, you only need to get through the door to start the next chapter named Echoes.

Metro Last Light Facility Diary Pages Locations

Metro Last Light Facility, the sixth chapter in the videogame, starts when Artyom accesses the ventilation tunnel in Separation.

Now that he found his friend, Pavel, Artyom has to find a way to rescue him, because he’s about to get hanged by the Reich forces.

Metro Last Light Chapter 6 is intended to be a stealth level, so players may overlook the hidden Diary Page collectible available here.

Therefore it’s recommended to use the information from the following Metro: Last Light collectibles guide.

Chapter 6 Description

A FRIEND

“Pavel’s almost certainly going to hang. Who knows what would have happened to me, had he not released me? Red, blue, yellow – what difference does that make? He risked his life for me. You don’t get that much in the Metro.

I can’t just walk away on him…”

Diary Page

After you exit the ventilation tunnel, go around the corner and you should see a room full of enemies.

Normally, the stealth approach requires you to use the stairs, but instead of doing that head inside the room (past the staircase) to find another musical instrument on a chair next to a table. The Metro Last Light Diary Page in Facility is  at the end of the level.

Follow your waypoint until you reach a raised platform/booth where you need to pull a lever. Before doing that, check the small room that’s in the opposite direction (pay attention to a patrolling guard). As you enter the small room turn left to see the Note collectible on the drawer.

“Basically, the Metro never knew any lasting peace. The united administration lasted for just a few years. It all fell apart by itself when it became obvious that the world was no more, that the rumors of the President and government surviving and escaping somewhere behind the Urals were just that – rumors, and that Russia was no longer rising from ashes. After that it was every man for himself.

The stations turned into city-states and yesterday’s neighbors turned into bitter enemies. Survival in the Metro meant struggle – for food, air, every square inch of habitable ground. Hardly a quarter survives today of those two hundred thousand who found their salvation from Judgment Day in the Metro. Hansa, the Red Line and the Reich have grown so large because they were stronger than the others and fought with more determination.

But not once throughout these twenty years of bloodshed has the fighting enveloped the whole of the Metro. What if our tiny underground world is facing a new, final World War?”

Once you pull the lever to open the gate, you just have to rescue Pavel and then follow him into the tunnels to trigger the next in line chapter, Torchlight.

Metro Last Light Separation Diary Pages Locations

Metro Last Light Chapter 5 is known as Separation and it starts at the end of the chase in Reich chapter.

Artyom and Pavel must find a way to the Order’s HQ, but unfortunately Pavel is captured.

Now is up to Artyom to find his friend and rescue him. There are two Artyom’s hidden Diary pages available in Separation, and those who wish to get them in their first playthrough should use the collectables guide below and the video provided above.

Chapter 5 Description

ESCAPE

“We pulled of the impossible… Now I have to inform the Order that the Dark One is missing. Which means to acknowledge that I’ve failed my mission.

But now, when he’s down in the Metro I won’t be able to find him alone.

I have to get to the nearest neutral station and then to Polis, the Order’s HQ. Pavel will show me the way.”

Diary Page #1

At the beginning of the chapter, you get separated from Pavel. Then you have to sneak around two enemy guards to gain access to the base.

Here you can either kill all the opponents or take a stealth approach. Regardless, head inside the building and go upstairs. You should see the first Metro Last Light Separation Diary Page on the control panel.

This is the fifth collectible in the videogame.

“When I heard Fuhrer’s hysterical ramblings, all the pieces of the puzzle started falling together… The assaults on our patrols, them capturing me as a Polis representative…

The existence of D6 no longer a secret, and a total war in the Metro is approaching…”

Diary Page #2

Continue on your path, and at the top of the staircase you need to open a door. As you open the door, you can see an enemy soldier sitting on a bed. He surrenders, so don’t worry about him.

In the room where you find him, turn left to spot the second Metro Last Light Diary Page available in Separation, which is the sixth Artyom’s hidden Diary page.

“Having a guide like Pavel sure puts my mind at ease. It seems he’d been there before. And Reich’s peculiarities don’t surprise him. I wish I knew what kind of mission he was on… But I just can’t find the right moment to talk.

But Pavel seemed to know that Reich was poised for war beforehand, while to me this was a revelation. The tales of the stores we found in D6 are already circulating through the Metro. The Order was not going to hog the find, but we’re running out of time to explain this. Reich is already almost at the Order’s throat trying to take the Vault…

So what’s going to happen when the Red Line and Hansa find out about the bunker? So that’s the war Miller was talking about…”

Head to the next area and then crawl inside the ventilation tunnel to trigger the next chapter, Facility.

Metro Last Light Reich Diary Pages Locations

Metro Last Light Reich is the fourth chapter of the videogame that is available after Artyom and Pavel escape from the jail in the previous chapter.

Reich is a very short chapter, and it only involves a chase where Artyom and his friend have to escape the concentration camp for good.

Even if it’s a short chapter, Reich features one hidden Diary Page collectible that can be missed by some players.

In order to avoid that, you should use the following Metro: Last Light collectibles guide.

Chapter 4 Description

REICH

“My escape from the Nazi prison could be entitled “The Enemy of My Enemy is My Friend”. This friend’s name is Pavel. He led a Red recon team wiped out by the Nazis.

I never liked communists much, but Pavel acted like a real hero.”

Diary Page

The  only Metro Last Light Diary Page in Reich is very easy to find. As soon as the chapter starts, walk straight, and before taking the stairs collect the fourth Artyom’s hidden Diary page that’s right in front of you, on top of the desk.

“The Dark One was here, at the Reich concentration camp, but he’s long gone. Well… That means I’ll just have to follow him. The mission assigned to me by Miller still stands.

I will find the Dark One… and then I’ll decide that to do next. If that Nazi was telling the truth and he really did sell the creature to Hansa traders, now the Dark One can be just about anywhere. Hansa occupies the ring line of the Moscow Metro and is a union of trading stations.

They still have regular train service with cargo and passenger caravans… In one day the Dark One may surface on the other side of the Metro. I might have lost him now. I don’t know how the Dark One avoided torture and execution.

The Nazis regularly hang people for having a “wrongly” shaped skull, so a creature like the Dark One should seem an embodiment of evil and corruption to them.”

After that, follow Pavel through the crowd, and at the end of the chase use the railcar to escape and begin the next chapter called Separation.

Metro Last Light Pavel Diary Pages Locations

Metro Last Light Chapter 3 is called Pavel and it begins after Artyom is captured in the previous mission, Ashes.

In this chapter, Artyom is taken to a concentration camp along with other soldiers. His only chance to escape is to work together with the only soldier that doesn’t get shot.

Like in the previous chapters, there’s only one hidden Diary Page collectible to be found in the current chapter.

The collectibles guide below features useful tips on how to find the diary page and it should be used in correlation with the video walkthrough, to find the required collectable.

Chapter 3 Description

THE ENEMY OF MY ENEMY

The creature I met in the burnt-out remains of the Gardens looks like a Dark One… And it was able to enter my mind, dragging the innermost out of me… But it also was just a baby. And I am sure that… it recognized me. And got scared.

It also left me knocked out for some time… Just enough for me to get captured…”

Diary Page

First, you need to escape using the garbage chute. Then you have to follow the soldier inside the concentration camp.

After you silently get rid of two guards, you need to climb a ladder to find a ventilation tunnel. Crawl inside the tunnel to reach some kind of torture room. From the dead body you find in this room you can acquire the throwing knives.

On the opposite side from the dead man you can find the Metro Last Light Diary Page available in the third chapter, which is the third Artyom’s hidden Diary page.

“The dead Botanical Gardens were always a deadly, deserted place. Stalkers used to avoid it even before the Dark Ones built their… hive… or city there. I was the only person in the world who’d eagerly go there. But this time some Reich stalkers were there, too.

These race purists almost never venture out of their stations in the center of the city! What were they looking for in the smoldering remains of the Gardens? And why didn’t Anna help me? Miller’s daughter would never abandon a comrade!

What if they captured her, too? She’s a rude tomboy and seems to hate me to boot, since I’m nothing like Hunter, but… I’m worried about her.”

In order to begin the next mission titled Reich you have to follow your new friend, Pavel, until you both have to pull a lever to open a gate.

Metro Last Light Ashes Diary Pages Locations

Ashes is the name of the second chapter in Metro: Last Light and it features another hidden Diary page to collect.

After he gets his mission in Sparta chapter, Artyom follows Anna to the surface. Here he must search for a creature named the Dark One and kill it, but things don’t turn out as expected.

There’s only one Diary page collectable in the Ashes chapter, and its exact location is uncovered in the next Metro Last Light collectibles guide.

The video above is useful for those who can’t pinpoint the precise spot.

Chapter 2 Description

A TRAIN TO THE PAST

“Just a year ago I stood on top of the TV tower and saw missiles rain on the Botanical Gardens, turning the flesh into ashes, smelting metal and glass. Nobody and nothing could survive that inferno. Yet Khan did find a Dark One there.

Now my mission is to find and eliminate it. To finish what I started.”

Diary Page

After you leave the train, you need to open a gate to a corridor. At the end of the corridor, you press the action button to open the door that leads to the tunnels and Anna tells you that you need to go right, because there’s a dead end on the left. So follow her until you reach the ladder.

There she tells you to put the mask on, but instead of doing that just go further into the tunnels, around the corner. Use the lighter to burn the spider webs and then you should find the Metro Last Light Ashes Diary Page next to a dead body in the corner.

This note is the second Artyom’s hidden Diary page.

“But maybe, the Dark Ones aren’t the reason for this… It’s troubled times we live in. The whole Order is humming like a beehive. Once created to safeguard the Metro against any dangers, it inadvertently introduced a new danger on its own…

When we entered the tunnels of the D6 military installation and found the vast sealed storage facilities we thought we’d saved humanity! With the stockpiles of food and medical supplies stored here, with the functional reactor, we all could survive indefinitely.

And live to see the day when the radiation on the surface goes down and we are able to go back there and make Earth our home once more.”

Next, you need to reach the surface and clear the area of enemies. You can trigger the next chapter, Pavel, when you finally catch up with the Dark One.

Metro Last Light Sparta Diary Pages Locations

Metro Last Light Sparta is the name of the first chapter in the video game, where players can collect their first Artyom’s hidden Diary page collectible, and also the first musical instrument available.

There isn’t much to do or to shoot in this short chapter, because it is basically an introduction for players, and it takes place in a safe zone which seems to be populated by soldiers.

The following collectibles guide reveals the location of the only Diary page collectible that can be found in Chapter 1.

Chapter 1 Description

PROLOGUE

“When asked how it all started, I always tell that it all began that day when we went to the Botanical Gardens. We – meaning yours truly and two of my friends. Whose idea was it to visit the abandoned station? Who persuaded the others to go? I always tell them that I don’t remember.

I always lie. It is a safe lie, for there’s no way to ascertain the truth. Both Vitali and Eugene are dead now.

The massive airlock opened with a grinding sound, opening a road to hell for us and a road into Metro for the demons. But, in fact, it all started that day when Mother said we should take a walk in the Botanical Gardens… and go there by Metro! I remember how we took a short escalator to the surface, how we exited a spacious glass pavilion and saw a street buried in green. I remember the small clouds moving across the limitless sky, and soft, cool wind on my face. Mother bought me an ice cream… That was the last time I tasted it. That day, humanity was executed. The righteous and the sinful were called to their deeds. And we hid from God’s sight in the Metro. And we were saved from His wrath.

And He apparently decided that flushing us out wasn’t worth the trouble. Then He went about his business or, perhaps, died. While we stayed on this used up and discarded Earth and continued just going with it… Going nowhere. I remember so many random, unnecessary things… Yet I don’t remember the most important one: my Mother’s face. She died very soon after the War started… How I wish I could recall her face!

The way she looked at me. The way she whispered that I have nothing to fear. I’d sell my soul just to recall that. I’d do that any day, any time. And I did.”

Diary Page

When you wake up in your quarters and you can control the character, you can see that there is a guitar on the chair in the room. This is the first musical instrument in the videogame that can be played.

Use it if you want to complete the Musician achievement/trophy. In the room that’s just before the armory/firing range you can find the second musical instrument on an armchair (left side, next to the exit).

For the first Metro Last Light Artyom’s hidden Diary page you need to play the chapter until you reach the command center. After Khan is escorted out of the room, you need to follow the sniper, Anna, to the elevator.

Before heading inside the elevator, collect the Metro Last Light Sparta Diary Page that’s sitting on a chair to your right side (make sure you grab the Note before entering the elevator).

“I must do what Hunter demanded of me, what Miller and Anna expects of me. I must prove them all that I deserve to be one of them. To be one of the Order’s fighters, to dedicate my life to the protection of humanity.

The protection of the Metro. This mission is tailor-made for me. I am the only one impervious to the influence of the Dark Ones. Perhaps, I was born to rid humanity of them once and for all. And now I am one step from fulfilling that task. So why am I so uneasy?”

After the elevator ride, you just have to get inside the train to start the next chapter named Ashes.
