Metro Last Light

Metro Last Light Khan Diary Pages Locations

Metro Last Light Chapter 21 bears the name of one of Artyom’s friends, Khan.

The mission starts as soon as Artyom and Khan enter the tunnels in the previous chapter, Quarantine.

Artyom has to catch up with the Dark One and at the same time get closer to Polis, and in order to do that he must ask Khan’s help because he knows some shortcuts in the tunnels.

There’s only one Artyom’s hidden diary page in Chapter 21, but the mission can be lengthy and the collectible easily missed.

The exact location of the Diary Page is revealed in the following Metro: Last Light game guide.

Chapter 21 Description

THE RIVER OF FATE

“In some other time and place, what happened could be life changing. But there is no time but present and no place but the Metro for us.

And we must do everything we can to save it. I have to hurry and catch up with the Dark One, Anna has to tell her father of what Korbut and Moskvin are doing. Anything else is a luxury we can’t afford right now.”

Diary Page

When the gate is opened, get inside with Khan. He tells a soldier to open the inter-line tunnel, and once you’re inside you have to go through some big fans.

Then you enter a dark area and Khan turns on his flashlight. Just around the first corner he will drop down on some pipes.

Don’t follow him, instead go straight through the door that’s in front of you, because it leads to a small room where you can find the Metro Last Light Diary Page collectible available in Chapter 21 (next to a skeleton).

“I remember Korbut calling the operation they were going to carry out at Oktyabrskaya “an experiment”… What if this massacre was not a prelude to a great war, but just a test of the new monstrous weapon?

What if the Reds are simply distracting Order and Hansa, all while preparing a much more powerful, overwhelming attack? I wanted to be a soldier. To protect humanity. But all the blood I spilled didn’t help me prevent the war that’s already started. I didn’t become a superhero capable of killing the villain and saving the whole world. Not that I didn’t dream of it. Everyone does.

But when the war starts, most turn out to be just cannon fodder. Many don’t even survive their first engagement. And I, as a little gear, can only spin on the predetermined axis and watch the massive flywheel of slaughter unwind.

That, perhaps, is why I am going with Khan. This might be my only chance to change anything.”

Head further into the sewers, and after the incursion in the past you need to board the railcar in order to end the chapter and start the next one in line called The Chase.

Metro Last Light Quarantine Diary Pages Locations

Metro Last Light Quarantine starts right after Artyom and Anna are rescued at the end of Contagion chapter.

Quarantine, or Chapter 20, is a very short mission in which Artyom only has to follow his waypoint to reunite with Khan.

However, there are three Metro Last Light collectables available in Quarantine, hence players can use the following collectibles guide if they wish to find them in a single playthrough.

Chapter 20 Description

EPIDEMIC

“The pieces of the puzzle are falling together, and the big picture is horrifying and unbelievable. I will tell the others about this, but I still can’t make myself believe it: the Reds have infected Oktyabrskaya, a peaceful stations, denizens of which never suspected anything, with an unknown deadly virus.

And then their mop-up squads entered it under the pretense of saving the station from the epidemic and eliminated everyone they could – women, children, old people. To prevent the infection from spreading…

And if all this is true, then me and Anna could be infected too. We’ve been saved from being killed, but we don’t know if we’re going to survive for long.”

Diary Page #1

After you wake up, follow your waypoint and you will eventually find a doctor and an officer talking.

Follow them inside the decontamination room and wait for the lights to turn green. When the path is clear, advance in the next room, and before heading into the area guarded by soldiers with gas masks, turn right, around the desks, so you can see the first Metro Last Light Quarantine Diary Page on the desk in front of you.

“The Reds were quite possibly hoping to enter a station completely wiped by the virus, but it took too long to do that and they got impatient. They did not just wait for the outcome, they hastened it.

The survivors say that when the purging of the station started, the Reds allowed some supposedly contaminated locals to escape to the neighboring station, the Oktayabrskaya-Koltsevaya. But those escapees were closely followed by the execution squads.

If not for a team of Order fighters who just happened to be at Koltsevaya at the time and repelled the Reds, by now they would have two stations and Hansa would be cut in half. But the Order managed to avert that.”

Diary Page #2

Use the compass in the quarantined zone until you meet up with Khan. Follow him, and when he turns left and enters a room, turn right instead, and you should see a desk next to the grate door.

The second Metro Last Light Diary Page in Quarantine is on that desk, and it is number 28 in the videogame.

“Now the Oktayabrskaya-Koltsevaya belonging to Hansa is a cross between a hospital and quarantine zone. All the refugees from the neighboring station and everyone had contacted them are being put into plastic boxes. And that’s it. Nobody tries to treat them.

Everyone suspected of being infected sits in his plastic cage and his death sits across, playing stares with him. A minute of this game lasts an eternity.

The losers are infected, die and get burned. Death is too good of a player to give his opponents many chances of winning.”

Next, get inside with Khan, and before going any further play the Musical Instrument that’s on the left side, as you’re looking towards the gun shop. Now you should go with Khan in the tunnels to start the next chapter that is also known as Khan.

Metro Last Light Contagion Diary Pages Locations

Metro Last Light Contagion, Chapter 19 in the video game, is unlocked when Artyom escapes the city that is buried under the church he finds in Nightfall chapter.

Artyom finally reaches Oktyabrskaya, but the station have been infected by the Reds and now they’re trying to prevent the infection from spreading by killing everyone they find.

There are a few Metro: Last Light collectibles that can be found in Contagion, and the following collectables guide features detailed information on how to get them all, and it should be used alongside the video walkthrough above.

Chapter 19 Description

THROUGH FIRE

“All the roads lead to Oktyabrskaya. The Dark One is there. Anna is the now, too. In the hands of my enemies.

The hands of the traitor – Lesnitsky.”

Diary Page

Follow your compass until you need to open a door with a skull sign. When you open the door, you have to put your gas mask on. As soon as you enter, look for a construction on the right side of the area. Head inside and you should see a man hanging on the wall.

Next to him is a small room where you can find another Musical Instrument. Head outside and deal with the soldiers that are torching the place.

In the central area that looks like a bar you should find the second Musical Instrument collectible, under the counter. Next, you have to go upstairs, to reach the subway car. Instead of using the catwalk, go left, inside the first chamber of the subway car, and walk straight until you can go no further.

The Metro Last Light Contagion Diary Page should be on the desk that’s right in front of you. Before leaving, go at the end of the catwalk to find another Musical Instrument resting on an armchair.

“The group that wiped out the Order outpost and kidnapped Anna takes over Oktyabrskaya – a peaceful neutral station. This is a declaration of war with the Order and influential Hansa, which borders Oktyabrskaya.

Lesnitsky’s team, even though quite strong, would still not be enough to start a war against Hansa. I don’t get this. What is Korbut hoping for? What is this devil thinking?”

Follow the waypoint to find Anna, and then rescue her so you can begin the next chapter known as Quarantine.

Metro Last Light Nightfall Diary Pages Locations

Metro Last Light Nightfall starts as soon as the main character, Artyom, crosses the swamp in Sundown using the ferry.

Chapter 17 continues Artyom’s journey on the surface, but at nightfall the dangers lurk at every corner.

His task is to reach the outpost in the abandoned church, because it’s the only safe place around here.

Only one Artyom’s hidden diary page is featured in Chapter 17, but that doesn’t mean it’s not very easy to miss.

The collectables guide below reveals its exact location and with the help of the video walkthrough, players should find it faster.

Chapter 17 Description

CHURCH

“I made quite a lot of noise pushing through the marshes. If there really are our people in the Church, I will soon meet them.”

Diary Page

As you start the chapter, you can see a ruined house right in front of you. Use the damaged ceiling as a ramp to reach the second level of the house.

Then head left, to the third room (the first room is the bathroom and the second one is where you can find the night vision goggles). Be careful at the trip wire and then open the door.

The Metro Last Light Diary Page in Nightfall is waiting for you on the floor, just ahead of the hole in the ceiling.

“If this subterranean island gets dragged into the meat-grinder of the coming war, all this will be done for. Gondola rides in the tunnel rivers, swimmers and fishermen, the amazingly useless art galleries, all these children who grew up in the dark but are all shining themselves with the light of hope…

Nothing will remain – just a charred burnt-out station. And soon all the rest of the Metro will become just like that…”

Navigate through the swamps until you find the church. Kill the big monster and once you’re done head inside the church to unlock the chapter named Undercity.

There are no Diary Pages collectibles in this chapter, but there is a Musical Instrument. You can play it as soon as you wake up, and it’s right next to the bed, on your left side.

After that, follow the mission’s objectives to unlock the Contagion chapter.

Metro Last Light Sundown Diary Pages Locations

Metro Last Light Chapter 16, called Sundown, starts after Artyom reaches the surface with the help of his friend from Venice.

Sundown is a mission that takes place at the surface, where payers have to find some fuel for the ferry winch in order to reach the outpost in the church.

Because there is a large area to explore, there might be players who will miss the only Diary Page collectable in Sundown.

Therefore it’s easier to use the next Metro Last Light guide which reveals its exact location.

Chapter 16 Description

MARSHES

“If I’m lucky, our people will be waiting for me at the outpost in the abandoned church. I will tell them everything I know – about Pavel, about a test of some kind they’re goind to conduct – and will continue my way to Oktyabrskaya.

The Dark One is there.”

Diary Page

When you begin the mission, if you look across the map, slightly to you left, from you current position, you should see an oil truck.

Find a safe way to the tanker and head inside the ruined building that’s next to it. In one of the rooms (where you can find fuel for the ferry winch), on the reception desk, is the Metro Last Light Sundown Diary Page, number 24 in the videogame.

I feel like I sailed into a maelstrom – events that I don’t fully understand start happening all around me and suddenly I’m dragged down to the bottom by their current… Wherever I go, everybody around me keeps talking of war.

Some are getting ready for it, others – running from it. But everyone believes it’s coming. Miller, Fuhrer, Moskvin, the people at the Theater and the refugees from the Red Line. The damp and rusty air of the Metro smells of blood and doom. It is not my war.

I wonder if anything at all can be done to prevent it…”

When you find the fuel go to the ferry winch and survive until the ferry arrives. Once you’re onboard you will trigger the next chapter named Nightfall.

Metro Last Light Dark Waters Diary Pages Locations

Metro Last Light Dark Waters, also known as Chapter 14 in Metro: Last Light, is available when Artyom calls the boat at the end of Bandits chapter.

Dark Waters is a very short mission, and it only involves a ride with the boat Artyom called.

However, the water is filled with some monsters called “shrimps”, so the ride turns into a fight for survival, but this is the only way to reach Venice.

Only one Artyom’s hidden Diary page is available to collect in Dark Waters, and it’s quite easy to find it since the whole chapter takes place on a boat, but there might be players who overlook its location, hence they can use the following collectibles guide.

Chapter 14 Description

DARK WATERS

“The snow on the surface starts melting… The familiar railcars are now joined with boats… and fishermen. One of them appeared just in the nick of time.

Soon we’ll be docked at Venice. Pavel is most probably already there.”

Diary Page

The Metro Last Light Diary Page in Dark Waters is very easy to get. Once the chapter starts and you’re on the boat, turn around and grab the Note collectible that’s right in front of you.

You can get this anytime you want, as long as you’re on the boat, but you have to get it before the final sequence.

“Some people don’t understand why the whole Metro isn’t still flooded. The others wonder how humanity could last for twenty years in a shelter intended to be used for a few months at most.

Some say that man is just as hard to kill as roaches or rats. But I don’t think that’s the only reason. I always thought we exist for a purpose. We just don’t yet completely get it.”

After that, you have to deal with the shrimps, and when the fisherman throws the big box full of grenades in the water the chapter ends, and the next one called Venice begins.

Metro Last Light Bandits Diary Pages Locations

Metro Last Light Bandits starts when Artyom crashes the railcar at the end of the previous chapter, Regina.

In this chapter, Artyom is one step closer to reaching Pavel’s group, but first he has to deal with some bandits that captured the refugees.

There are two Metro Last Light collectibles in Chapter 13, and the following collectables guide reveals their locations for those who want to focus on the story and don’t have time to search every area of the map.

Chapter 13 Description

BANDITS

“Pavel’s group is advancing towards Tretyakovskaya, also known as Venice. They have a few hours’ lead on me, and are moving via frequently used tunnels…

But I will catch up. I can’t afford not to.”

Diary Page #1

Use the railcar to reach the refugees, and after you speak with them advance until you find the bandits (after you rescue the woman from the subway car).

Once you deal with them you find a refugee near a camp fire. Untie him and he will clear the path for your railcar. As soon as you go past the radiation area stop the vehicle and search for a bathroom on the right side of the area.

Inside the bathroom is the first Metro Last Light Diary Page in Bandits level.

“I remember Pavel saying, “You can’t save everyone. You have to choose the lesser evil” in the Nazi concentration camp… He’s probably right. But one thought has been nagging me ever since… We all are damn heroes saving humanity.

The Nazis killing anyone however slightly mutated. The Communists eager to herd everyone into one state and thus introduce peace into the Metro. Me, who in order to save people has destroyed a whole new sentient species.

We’re talking of salvation all the while killing, killing, killing… And that was the way of man always.”

Diary Page #2

Follow the path until you reach a crossroad and you need to change the rail tracks to enter a tunnel with many fires in it (there’s a skull sign at the entrance of this tunnel).

On the right side of the tunnel you should soon find a door (do not use the railcar to break through the spike trap). Head inside and pay attention to the bandits.

The second Metro Last Light Bandits Diary Page is on a desk in the last room of this area, right before where the women and the children are held captive (look for a dead refugee on a chair).

“Somebody told me once, that the Metro stands on water. Usually it can’t get inside the tunnels. The lived-in stations have pumps working day and night to remove the water seeping in from outside.

But there also are places like this, where the tunnels have turned into subterranean rivers and the stations into islands. That won’t stop me. I will continue my pursuit even on water. The Tretyakovskaya is already in sight.”

Once you clear the way, the railcar breaks and you have to continue on foot.

Call the boat and then survive the attack until the boat arrives. Jump on board to start the next chapter, Dark Waters.

Metro Last Light Regina Diary Pages Locations

Regina is the thirteenth chapter in Metro Last Light, and it becomes available when Artyom escapes through the tunnels in Revolution station.

Artyom meets with an old friend, who gives him the means of traversing the dangerous subway tunnels, a railcar known as Regina.

While the chapter is linear and there is only one Artyom’s hidden Diary page and one Musical Instrument, the collectibles are very easy to miss, so players who use the next Metro: Last Light guide should find them faster.

Chapter 12 Description

HOT PURSUIT

“I was able to send a report back to the Order via my old acquaintance: Andrew the Blacksmith.

At least Miller will know that I’m alive, that I haven’t completed the mission but haven’t resigned from it either.”

Diary Page

Once you acquire the railcar, get inside and start driving. Soon you will see a door on your left.

Stop the car and get inside the room, then use the Musical Instrument that’s next to the bed. Jump back in the railcar and eventually you will reach a locked gate. In order to open the gate you have to find the fusebox inside a heavily infested area.

When the path is opened, head further into the tunnel. Now you are followed by the dog-like creatures, the Watchmen, and you also have to push a subway car using your railcar. Pay attention to your right side (as facing the subway car) to find a flooded tunnel (look for the green mushrooms).

Head inside the tunnel and walk until you find its other end. Be careful as you get attacked by Watchmen, but once you get rid of them grab the Metro Last Light Regina Diary Page that’s sitting next to the dead body.

“Once again Andrew helped me out – and once again I am riding a railcar towards my goal. This time, though, I travel comfort instead of hiding in a luggage crate risking being put to death on the spot if found out…

These tunnels I’m driving through, though, seem to harbor things more dangerous than the execution squads of the Reds…”

Soon after you grab the collectible you find a dead end and you need to switch the rail tracks. When you drive the railcar on the new tracks you trigger the next in line chapter named Bandits.

Metro Last Light Revolution Diary Pages Locations

Metro Last Light Revolution is the eleventh chapter of the videogame and it starts when Artyom escapes its enemies after his betrayal in Bolshoi.

Now that he’s free again, Artyom must find the one who betrayed him, Pavel, and ask him about the location of the Dark One.

Revolution is one of the longest chapters in Metro: Last Light, featuring many Diary Pages and Musical Instruments collectables, and those who want to get them in their first playthrough are advised to use the collectibles guide below in correlation with the video provided.

Chapter 11 Description

RED LINE

“Now I am in REAL spider-infested catacombs… Where the General Secretary Moskvin does not look like the head spider; that title clearly belongs to General Korbut… I sure would like to know what’s on his mind.

What did Lesnitsky bring him from D6? What’s going to destroy the enemies of the Revolution? Only questions, and no answers.

The only thing that is clear: Pavel has information on the Dark One, which makes him my current target.”

Diary Page #1

After you get your equipment back, you have to go around a metal detector to avoid the guards’ detection.

Go downstairs and head inside the room at the base of the staircase (left side as you go down, it’s on your path, so you can’t miss it). The first Metro Last Light Diary Page in Revolution is on the desk.

Before getting outside of the room, check behind the desk for a Musical Instrument.

“One thing is completely certain now: the Red Line is preparing for war. Without making pompous statements or fanning hysteria like the Reich usually does, they are steadily assembling the strongest army in the Metro ever.

And the very silence accompanying their war preparations seems more sinister to me than all the Fuhrer’s speeches…”

Diary Page #2

Next, open the door to access a large area with some kind of machinery in the center. Stick to the shadows on the right side of the area and eventually you will find two soldiers near a camp fire (after you go around the crane).

The objective tells you to go left, but instead go right, in a room with a soldier that sits down (if you’re fast enough you can catch him talking through the grates to another soldier).

Disable the lights and then use the switch to open the blast doors. Pay attention when you open the doors, because a soldier investigates the disturbance. When it’s safe, knock him out and get in the next room, where you can see three more soldiers.

Dispose of them and then get the second Metro Last Light Revolution Diary Page from the small shelf that’s near the end of the room. If you eliminated all three guards, you might have noticed that one of them played a piano, which is another Musical Instrument that must be collected.

“Looks like the Red Line’s General Secretary Moskvin does not do much decision-making. It seems that he himself is Korbut’s hostage…

The one-eyed General holds him in a deadlock with one hand, while using the other to move the pieces on his huge chessboard – the whole Metro. But why does the Secretary, supposedly capable of laying the general off or even having him executed, tolerate his insolence and yield to his demands?

Knowledge, perhaps?

I just have to catch up with Pavel and he’ll tell me everything. We’ll see how he is going to continue singing his songs of equality and brotherhood, of creating a just state for everyone… That traitor!”

Diary Page #3

Once you’re done exploring, follow the waypoint out of the large area and into the next one. Here, the soldiers are doing some tests, so it’s best to hug the left wall until you drop in the sewers.

Once you exit on the other side, your objective is to find a switch and turn off the fan blade. Therefore, climb the nearby ladder and head inside the control room. Let the scientist talk to his colleagues and then knock him out.

Before hitting the switch collect the third Metro Last Light Diary Note in Revolution from the desk next to the switch.

“Justice… Equality… Peace… Moskvin knows how to hit where it hurts. It might seem strange, but they are right: if we don’t reach an agreement, don’t stop fighting, we’ll finish ourselves off much sooner that any mutants would.

Communists, just like Nazis, use the bunker located by the Order as bait. The common folk swallow it hook, line and sinker… And that’s all. War.

Prosperity has to be bought with a price of blood. For humanity to have a bright future, one more generation has to discard its present…”

Diary Page #4

Shortly after you disable the fan you need to go through it to reach the next area. From the balcony go down using the ladder.

There are two guards talking, so wait for them to finish and then grab the fourth Note from the table between them. The last Artyom’s hidden diary page in Revolution is the seventeenth in the videogame.

“I must find the last surviving Dark One. The Order dictates that I eliminate it. That is my mission. Kill it, like I killed all its kin.

I’m prohibited from reflecting on this order, I have no right to doubt, but… After all I recalled under the effect of Korbut’s serum… I no longer know if I still want to carry that order out.”

Now you should find your way across the room, as instructed by your compass, and when you enter the corridor with the door that leads to the next area, don’t forget to open the locker you find in here, because it contains another Musical Instrument.

Follow the waypoint in the tunnels and you should soon unlock the chapter known as Regina.

Metro Last Light Bolshoi Diary Pages Locations

Metro Last Light Bolshoi is available when Artyom and his friend reach the entrance to the Theater at the end of Echoes chapter.

The Bolshoi chapter represents a change in pace, where players can take a break before starting the next mission.

There are some things to explore around the station, so there’s no hurry in finishing the chapter.

Apart from two hidden Metro Last Light Diary Pages, there are four Musical Instruments collectables in Chapter 9, and the following collectables guide reveals their exact locations with the help of some hints and tips.

Chapter 9 Description

THEATER

“Our short visit to dead Moscow, the phantom of the past, is over. Pavel and I helped each other out again and are returning down to the Metro as real partners now. You can’t survive the wastelands any other way. But now ahead of us lies a populated station, The Theater.

It’s very close to Polis. If Pavel manages to lead me through the Red Line guard posts, I’ll be home in less than an hour.”

Diary Page #1

When you start the level, talk with the other men and then follow Pavel around the corner to find an entrance guarded by two soldiers.

Next to the bench to your right is a Musical Instrument, so play it before going past the guards. After Pavel talks to the two soldiers to let you pass, head through the passage and grab the first Metro Last Light Note from the shelves on your left (next to the luggage).

This is Artyom’s hidden Diary page number 12.

“Pavel needs some time to set everything up. The citizens of the other stations need a permit to enter the Red Line. The state in permanent preparation for the war readily sees a spy in any outsider. So I have some time to look around the Theater.

This station is a real legend of the Metro – not unlike Polis, the difference being that while Polis gathered most of the surviving scientists, the Theater is considered to be the cultural capital of the Metro.”

Diary Page #2

Now that you have some time to look around, go in the first populated area, and just past the last table you can find another Musical Instrument next to a chair. Follow the path to find the Market area.

At the end of the market check the counter of the last kiosk on the left for the third musical instrument in Bolshoi level. As soon as you exit the market area you can grab the second Metro Last Light Bolshoi Diary Page from the waiting benches that are on the left side of the area, right before the entrance to the actual Theater.

While in the Theater, you can watch the entire show for another achievement/trophy.

“No wonder! The world-famous Bolshoi Theater is right above that station! There are rumors that there are underground passages from its basement into the Metro, and that’s the reason why many of its actors and other staff were able to save themselves on Judgment Day. They founded a new Bolshoi down here at the station.

It is the theater rumors of which reach even the farthest corners of the Metro. And since the habitable world ends where the Metro lines end, you could say that the New Bolshoi is also known around the world. Some say it actually preserves the tradition of its great predecessor…

They say that the Earth continues to spin while the Bolshoi still puts on the shows… How I wished to see on of those! Perhaps, I finally got my chance?”

When you’re ready, follow Pavel through the backstage until you reach a restaurant. Before going any further play the Musical Instrument that’s next to the sink on your right.

Sit at the table to trigger the chapter named Korbut.

However, this doesn’t feature any collectibles, so play until you unlock the next one in line, Revolution.
