Reptile is a Mortal Kombat character who originally appeared in the first episode of the MK video game series, but as an unplayable character.
He became a playable character in Mortal Kombat II and it is said that he was created by developers as a combination between Scorpion and Sub-Zero.
Reptile’s in-game costume is green which is also the color resulted by combining yellow (Scorpion’s costume) and blue (Sub-Zero’s costume).
Reptile belongs to the Saurian race that inhabited the Earthrealm, thousands of years ago. Caught in the fight between the Elder Gods, Reptile’s race was forced to flee to Zaterra, a desolate realm who was quickly conquered by Shao Khan.
Zaterra became part of the Outworld and almost all Saurians were killed, or forced to become slaves. Reptile managed to survive, but he served Shao Khan for many years. Even if he is considered an evil character, in fact, Reptile is neutral one and his only wish is to find out what really happened to his race, and if he is the last Saurian alive.
In Mortal Kombat 9, the game’s official website and the character’s intro movie, reveal that Reptile became a master in stealth techniques, but his goal remains unchanged. He would kill anyone if this action could bring the Saurian’s back.
In the game, Reptile can perform various special moves, but his main skill remains his ability to disappear.
