Nightwolf is a Mortal Kombat character who debuted in Mortal Kombat 3.
He is a Native American and a shaman capable to communicate with Raiden through his visions.
The character also appeared in other Mortal Kombat video games, such as Mortal Kombat Trilogy, Mortal Kombat: Deception and Mortal Kombat: Armageddon.
Nightwolf was always a positive character in all Mortal Kombat video games, being guided by his ancestors. His weapons are two tomahawks and his fighting styles are Val Tudo and Tae Kwon Do.
In Mortal Kombat 9, or Mortal Kombat 2011, Nightwolf returns, but according to the game’s plot, he is changed.
It is said that when Nightwolf fought against Shao Khan, he consumed all his energy, and he called his spirit guide (a wolf) to help him in the battle. After Shao Khan was defeated, Nightwolf returned home and tried to regain his powers.
Nightwolf’s spirit guide also disappeared after the battle, and came back later, during the ritual. Players will find out that the spirit guide was corrupted by Shao Khan who used him in order to cheat death.
Without his spirit guide and the powers he controlled in the past, Nightwolf transformed into his Animality, biting his enemies and changing them into werewolves, just as Shao Khan planned.
Gamers who decide to play as Nightwolf in Mortal Kombat 9 will observe that this character’s special attacks are boosted by his ancestors.
Nightwolf can fire arrows to damage his enemies from distance, or he can invoke the power of lightning.
Even his special X-Ray attack is named Ancestors Call.
