Mortal Kombat 2011 Game Guide: Kratos

Kratos is the second character introduced by developers in Mortal Kombat 9, following Cyber Sub-Zero.

Unlike Cyber Sub-Zero, Kratos is available in the game, from the beginning; however he is a PlayStation 3 exclusive character and he only appears in the VS playing modes.

Xbox 360 users can’t access Kratos, especially because he is the main protagonist in the God of War franchise, which was developed exclusively for Sony’s gaming platforms.

Kratos is a Demigod and his debut in Mortal Kombat 9, or Mortal Kombat 2011, was confirmed during Spike TV’s annual Video Game Awards.

Ed Boon, who is the co-creator of the Mortal Kombat video game series, stated that Kratos would “fit perfectly” in a Mortal Kombat tournament.

His main weapons in Mortal Kombat 9 are the Blades of Chaos he received from Ares in the first title of the GoW series.

Additionally, Kratos can perform several special attacks using other weapons that he used in God of War.

An interesting fact in Mortal Kombat 9 is how Kratos was involved in Shao Khan’s Mortal Kombat tournament; however the character’s in-game biography explains his presence in Outworld:

“Ancient Greece knew no more bloodthirsty a warrior than Kratos, who for a time was the God of War. Mortal once more, Kratos withdrew from the ages-old clash between men and gods. But his solitude was broken when he was ripped through space and time. As the madness subsided, Kratos found himself in present-day Outworld, kneeling before Shao Kahn. To ensure his victory in Mortal Kombat, the emperor had invoked an ancient ritual, sacrificing the souls of his vanguard to summon and enslave the most powerful warrior of all time. But the spell alone could not contain Kratos, who soon regained his free will. Enraged by Shao Kahn’s arrogance, Kratos vowed to rip the warlord’s spine from his body. The God of War had returned to battle.”

The guide below contains the full list with the special attacks and the finishing moves that can be performed by the God of War in Mortal Kombat 9.
