Jax Briggs or Major Jackson Briggs is a fictional Mortal Kombat character who debuted in the second episode of the video game series.
Jax’s origins are in Earthrealm where he leads the Outer World Investigation Agency. He is a soldier and a member of the Special Forces, just like Sonya Blade.
While Sonya is a Lieutenant, Jax is a Major, which makes him her direct superior.
Jax Briggs is also a cybernetic-modified unit. Similar to Kano, Jax’s main storyline starts in Mortal Kombat II, but his first appearance was in Mortal Kombat: Special Forces.
The character was assigned to find the leader of the Black Dragon organization, the criminal named Kano. While hunting down Kano, Jax entered a portal which transported him to the Outworld.
The same portal was used by Kano in order to reach Outworld, hoping to find a powerful relic, called the Eye of Chitian.
Jax faced Kano and after he defeated him, the criminal was transported to the Earthrealm.
Unfortunately, Kano escaped from the prison and he returned to the Outworld, to serve Shang Tsung.
In Mortal Kombat 9, Jax Briggs continues his quest to destroy the Black Dragon organization and its leader, but this time he is accompanied by Sonya Blade. In the game, Jax is equipped with his bionic implants, which can be observed on his arms.
These implants allow him to execute powerful attacks and smash the ground with an impressive force.
