Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII Hunter In Light And Shadow Walkthrough

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII Hunter In Light And Shadow is the final main quest in Luxerion, and it is triggered after you successfully complete Rites For A Goddess.

Assuming that you acquired the Crest of Etro at the end of the previous quest, you will be asked to find Noel. The Crest of Etro is an important item, because it grants access to a new area in the Warren, known as The Trench.

Once you get the Crest of Etro, open your map and you will see the location where the next quest begins; however, before heading towards the exclamation mark, make the necessary preparations, because you will have to fight Noel.

Quest Walkthrough

As you approach the location where the quest begins, you will see a large door and a guard in front of it. Show the guard that you have the Crest of Etro and you will gain access to The Trench.

At this point the only goal you have is to pursue Noel Kreiss through a maze. As long as you stay above the ground, on the rooftops, it will be easier for you to see him.

From time to time, you will encounter Fanatics, but at this point you should be able to take them out without any problems. Stay close to Noel and keep an eye on the mini-map. Don’t forget to jump from one roof to another and destroy the red crates around you.

The moment you catch Noel, a cutscene starts and you will have to defeat him in order to complete the quest.

Similar to the demons you have defeated during the previous quest, Noel is vulnerable to lightning-based attacks, which means that the best attacks you can use against him are Thundara, Sparkstrike and Thunder.

On the other hand Noel is more powerful than the demons, and he will use buffs such as Enfire and Shell on himself. Therefore, try to cast Deshell and Deprotect on him, followed by the attacks mentioned above. Your goal is to stagger him as quickly as possible and to do so you should try to guard his attacks, but the moment before they hit.

Precise timing plays an important aspect. One of Noel’s most powerful attacks is the Meteor Javelin which is an eight-hit physical attack that must be guarded at all costs. Once you manage to stagger Noel using your lightning-based attacks, you should use the Overclock ability and unleash physical attacks on him.

Repeat the steps to defeat Noel, and watch the cutscene at the end of the battle. After the cutscene, pick up the Shadow Hunter on the ground.

Post Quest Notes

After you defeat Noel and you complete the last quest in Luxerion, a plethora of side-quests and Canvas Of Prayers quests become available.

Complete as many as you can before leaving the area. If you defeat Noel before 6 AM, and you don’t get out The Warren, the gates will close and you might find yourself stuck in the area.

Go to the eastern gate and look for a ladder you can use to jump over the wall to exit The Warren. After 10 PM, make sure you talk to Aremiah in front of the gate that leads to the Holy District, and you will get to see Vanille, if you complete The Saint’s Stone side-quest.

The next main quest in line is The Great Break-In, which starts in Yusnaan.
