L.A. Noire Game Guide: Homicide Cases Walkthrough

In L.A. Noire, Cole Phelps must solve five different Homicide cases, and our game guide reveals all of them, including tips and tricks that can be used by players who desire to complete them faster.

In order to be transferred to the Homicide department, Cole Phelps has to finish all the cases in the Vice Department.

Unlike other LAPD departments, the Homicide Department is focused on brutal and complex crimes. As a Homicide detective, Cole Phelps will work with Rusty Galloway.

The captain of the Homicide department is James Donnelly, one of the most respected characters in the game.

The Red Lipstick Murder

One of the Homicide cases available in L.A. Noire is called The Red Lipstick Murder, or simply The Red Lipstick case.

Cole Phelps is sent by the Homicide Department Captain James Donnelly, to investigate a strange murder. When Cole and his partner, Rusty Galloway, arrive at the crime scene, they find a naked and mutilated woman.

Players will observe that the victim’s body presents a message written in blood, and they are soon informed by an officer that this could be another victim of a serial killer named Werewolf.

This case is related to the murder of Jeanne French, back in 1947. According to 1947project.blogspot.com, the case remained unsolved.

Below is a guide that will help players to solve the The Red Lipstick Murder. There are 19 clues and 7 questions that must be asked.

After you arrive at the crime scene, search evidence marker C, for some shoeprints. They are in front of the victim.

Search evidence marker A, and you will see a purse with a lipstick inside.

Near evidence marker B you will see a globe and inside it a lighter from Bamba Club.

Approach the victim and search her head and her left arm, for two additional clues.

Go to the Bamba Club and talk to the bartender.

Dick McColl Interrogation

First question – Suspect seen with victim – Truth (You will also unlock an achievement)

After the interrogation is over, use the phone.

When you reach Henry’s house, you will find a newspaper on the floor.

Enter the dining room and search the floor for a shoe.

Check the broken window.

Check the fridge, for a note.

Go to the bedroom and search the dresser for a photo and a jewelry case.

Go outside and talk to the neighbor.

Go back inside the house and look in the kitchen. You will see a cabinet and on it, a note.

Go back to the bedroom and search for a suitcase. You will find a pair of shoes.

Jacob Henry Interview

Jacob Henry Interrogation

When you complete the interrogation, go to Alonzo Mendez’s apartment.

To find Mendez apartment, search the mailboxes. He lives in apartment 16.

Go to the bedroom and search the floor, near the bed. You will find a shoe and a box containing a bloody wrench and a lipstick.

When you leave the location, Mendez arrives.

Chase him down and arrest him.

The Golden Butterfly

The Golden Butterfly is a homicide case that must be solved by players who wish to advance in the game.

To successfully complete this case, players will have to find 12 clues, and visit 3 locations: Moller Residence, Belmont High School, and the Central Morgue.

Our guide teaches players where to go and how to interrogate each person involved in the Golden Butterfly case:

Talk to the officer for a short briefing.

Examine the victim’s body to find the following clues: a rope pattern, a missing ring, and several footprints.

Go to the evidence marker B and you will see a purse. Search for a nametag and some money.

Go to the evidence marker C and you will see for some footprints.

Go to the Moller Residence after you talk to the Coroner.

Inside the residence you will find: a pair of work boots on the floor and a jewelry case on the dresser.

Michelle Moller Interrogation

After you complete both interrogations, you will have to talk to the neighbor and chase down Hugo. You will also have use the telephone to find the address of Belmont High School.

Once you reach this location talk to Eli Rooney and search the trunk of his car, for three additional clues, and then use the telephone.

When you reach the Central Morgue, examine the ropes, the shoe imprints and the victim’s body.

Go to the Central Police Station for two additional interrogations.

Hugo Moller Second Interrogation

The Silk Stocking Murder

The Silk Stocking case is similar to The Red Lipstick Murder, but this time the victim (a woman) is found in a parking lot. During the first investigation, Cole Phelps finds an address which leads him to a strange lady named Barbara Lapenti.

Barbara runs the Parsons Boarding House, and she must be interrogated by Cole.

After several questions, the detective receives the permission to search the victim’s room. Two more clues can be found here, both of them leading to different locations and possible suspects.

The first suspect is the victim’s husband while the second location is a bar. Each location offers new clues, and after the player interrogates additional characters, he will be involved in a car chase and a fight.

The guide below reveals how to sole The Silk Stocking Murder case. Players will have to find 17 clues and ask 13 questions.

Examine the victim’s body.

Search the right arm for a removed ring.

Search the left arm for a library card.

Search the torso for a lipstick written message.

Check the head and the neck to discover a new clue.

Go to evidence marker A and look for a stocking.

Go to evidence marker C, and search for a blood trail. Follow it and you will find a hat.

Follow the blood trail from the alley and you will find a shoe (near a trash can), some keys (near a red pipe) and a pattern card.

Reach the roof and you will find an empty envelope and a gold case.

If you climb the pipe you will find a ring, a paint brush and a purse. Inspect them all.

Go back to the police station and talk to your commander.

After you reach Antonia’s house, go to room 5.

Check the broken window, the dresser (you will find a photo) and the suitcase (you will find a letter).

Diego Agular Interview

Go to the Maldonado residence but be careful because you will be attacked. After the aggressors are neutralized, check the house.

Go to the kitchen and search for a crate marked Just Picked Fruit Market.

In the kitchen you will also find a matchbox from El Dorado. Check the kitchen counter.

In the same kitchen search the shirt hanging on the wall.

Go outside and talk to the neighbors. Don’t miss the one from 302.

You can now go to the police station and talk to the captain. Make sure that you investigate both letters you received. Find Angel Maldonado and interrogate him.

After you finish this interrogation you will be able to enter the liquor store. Go to the backroom and you will find a scalpel on the desk. Search the cabinet drawer and you will find a locked box. The combination is 253.

Inside you will find the victim’s bracelet and a cutscene will trigger. Get ready for a car chase and a fist fight.

The White Shoe Slaying

The White Shoe Slaying is the fourth homicide case in L.A. Noire. Players will have to find 17 clues in this case, and our guide shows where are these clues and how to solve this murder case.

When you reach the crime scene make sure you talk to the coroner.

Search the victim’s body, especially his neck.

Go to evidence marker B and search for some boot prints.

Go to evidence marker C and look for several tire tracks.

After the interrogation, use the phone and make a call to reveal two additional addresses. The first one is for Superior Laundry Services and the second one is for Hobo Camp.

Go to Superior Laundry Services and look on the ledger. Find F1363 and you will see the corresponding address.

After you reach the residence on 43 Emerald Street, go to the bedroom. On the dresser is a matchbox marked Baron’s Bar, and a picture.
Go to the laundry room and look near the sink, to find a purse. Open it and you will find a drivers license.

Search near the backdoor for a pair of boots and near the washroom door for a jacket.

Go outside and investigate the boat. You will find a rope.

Talk to Lars Taraldsen.

Before returning to the police station, make sure you call for a cab, that can be used receive additional information about the cab driver you are looking for. Also, you can use the police car scanner to find the yellow cab. The cab location can be marked in the notebook.

Return to the police station and interrogate James Jessop.

When you leave the police station, a cut scene triggers and you will be transported to the Hobo Camp, however do not enter.

Instead, go to the bus depot and talk to the woman in the office. The bus you are looking for is 74. After you find the exact route, jump into your car, start the siren and catch the bus. As soon as it stops talk to Frank Zeferelli for an additional clue.

Now you can return to the Hobo Camp.

Fight and defeat Stuart Ackerman.

Go inside his house and look on the table. Take the purse and open it, to find a ticket.

Check Ackerman’s nightstand to find a rope, and look on the crates for a newspaper.

Return to the police station and interrogate him.

The Studio Secretary Murder

The fifth homicide case in L.A. Noire is called The Studio Secretary Murder.

There are 17 clues in this case, and practically, this is the last murder case which requires investigations, because during The Quarter Moon Murders, players will only have to solve several puzzles to locate the suspect.

Start by examining the two rings.

When you reach the rail-yard, talk to the coroner.

Search the victim’s body, especially the head and the right arm.

Look for a yellow blanket and examine the handbag there, in order to find a card and a part of a letter. You will also find a matchbox from Mensch’s Bar.

The Quarter Moon Murders

The last case on the on the homicide desk, in L.A. Noire, is called the The Quarter Moon Murders. This case is focused on finding seven excerpts that will eventually lead Cole Phelps, to the Black Dahlia Killer. Our guide shows how to solve this case.

The first Shelly Excerpt can be found by examining the letters in the Black Dahlia Letter, from the Central Police Station.

The second Shelly Excerpt is in Pershing Square, on top of the water fountain, along with a Social Security Card. The Hall of Records description matches the second Shelly Excerpt.

In the Hall of Records, reach the chandelier, using one of the platform cables. On the chandelier is the third Shelly Excerpt and the missing watch of Deidre Moller. L.A. Public Library description matches the third Shelly Excerpt.

Reach the top of the L.A. Public Library and look for Antonia’s Medallion and the fourth Shelly Excerpt, which leads you to the Westlake Tarpits Library.

To reach the Westlake Tarpits Library you must follow the sunken docks. On the island you will find the fifth Shelly Excerpt and the shoes of Theresa Taraldsen. Next location is L.A. County Art Museum.

When you arrive at the L.A. County Art Museum you must reach the center of the labyrinth. There, you will find a statue as well as the sixth Shelly Excerpt and the ring of Celine Henry. The Intolerance Movie Set description matches the sixth Shelly Excerpt.

When you get there, look for a throne and a way to get there. On the throne is the ring of Evelyn Summers and the seventh Shelly Excerpt. Exit the movie set.

The last location is the Christ Crown of Thorns, where you will encounter the Black Dahlia Killer. Chase him in the catacombs and beat him. His name is Garrett Mason.
