Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, also known as KoA: Reckoning is a role-playing video game developed by 38 Studios and Big Huge Games for PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360.
Released on February 7, 2012 and rated M for Mature, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning it was one of the most anticipated games of 2012, especially because Ken Rolston the games executive-designer was also the lead designer of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is also an open-world video game, allowing players to explore a fantasy world in which they can forge their own destinies.
Many gamers and RPG fans compared Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning with the Fable series of video games, but Curt Schilling (founder of 38 Studios) explained that the gameplay in KoA: Reckoning is a mix between God of War and Oblivion.
Our Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning walkthrough explains how to complete this RPG from the beginning to the end; however, fans of the game should keep in mind several facts before proceeding further.
Since Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning features a vast world which must be explored; the walkthrough was divided in zones.
In other words, for each zone available in Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, a different game guide was created. Every guide reveals the quests available to players and explains how to complete them.
The walkthrough is not focused on exploration, but will reveal some hidden areas that should be visited by players. Additionally, the Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning walkthrough explains only how we have developed our main character, based on our play style.
Any additional information regarding skills, crafting or materials, are provided by the games tutorials and can be accessed anytime from the main menu.
When you are ready to begin, start the game and select the desired difficulty setting.
Watch the introductory cutscene and learn about the factions in the game, the Fae and their powerful king.
The movie also explains how the war between the Fae and the small kingdoms of Amalur started. In this war, your hero died or not?
When the cutscene ends, you will see two gnomes carrying your body in a cart.
The cutscene stops, and you have to create your Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning character.
First step is to choose your gender: male or female, by pressing the right and the left triggers.
After this step, it is time to decide the race of your hero.
Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning features 4 playable races: Almain, Varani, Ljosalfar and Dokkalfar.
Pay close attention to the racial bonuses, and make sure you pick your race, based on your play style. For example, if you wish to play as a warrior, you should go with Almain, but if you want to play as a rogue, you should choose the Varani.
Keep in mind that all races can use all weapons, but the effectiveness of these weapons depend on your hero’s race.
In other words, even if you play as a Varani, you will still be able to use a staff, but as a Ljosalfar, you will inflict more damage with it.
We have decided to go with the Almain race.
The next important step is to select your patron God. There are five patron gods available:
Vraekor God of Fire, and Patron of the Forge
Ethene Goddess of Wisdom and Art
Thyrdon God of War, Battle and Tactics
Mitharu God of Order
Ynadon God of Justice
Again, be very careful when you choose your patron god, and pay attention to the Patron Bonuses you will gain. Our decision was to go with Thyrdon since the bonuses he offers increase the physical damage and the armor of our warrior.
The next screen, allows you to customize the characters appearance. Select a preset then customize the character as you wish. Add jewelry, tattoos, change his hair color, etc…. The characters appearance will not modify the gameplay.
When you are ready, confirm your selections by pressing X.
After the next-cutscene, showing the same gnomes, you will have to name your character.
Pick the name for your hero and watch the next cutscene.
It seems that somehow you managed to survive, and you wake up on a pile of dead bodies. It is time to get out of here.
Main Quest: Out of Darkness
Objective 1: Find a way out
Press Start to view your map and your quest log. Your main objective is to find a way out.
Move forward through the cavern, and pick up the Disposal Notes you see on a small table to the left.
Go left and behind several rocks you will see a skeleton. Loot it, and then turn back to the main gate.
Loot the Rusty Sword from the skeleton near the central door and equip it.
When the door opens, push forward following the tunnel and destroy any crate you see, by hitting it with your sword.
Continue and you will meet your first opponents: Giant Rats. Kill them quickly, and then follow the tunnel, destroying all barrels. Some of them contain gold.
Proceed through the tunnel and you will hear someone screaming for help.
Objective 2: Rescue the gnome
Jump down off the ledge and kill the two Tuatha Soldiers that attack you. Dont forget to roll, by pressing B.
Approach the gnome named Encel and talk to him. You will find out that you survived an experiment led by someone called Fomorous Hugues. It is time to meet him.
You can continue your dialogue with Encel, for additional information. You will also get several minor health potions.
Objective 3: Escape with Encel
The next objective is clear. All you have to do is to follow Encel, but dont leave this chamber without exploring it.
There is a highlighted chest as well as the corpses of the two soldiers you have killed. Loot everything and destroy the gates, then continue following Encel, through the door he opened for you.
Make sure you equip the items you have found.
Follow the stairs up and watch the cutscene, then head to the next door and use the lever to open it.
Proceed through the next tunnel and destroy the crates to the right, because behind them is a hidden chest.
Get the items inside and check your objectives.
Objective 4: Get a shield
The shield you need to find is located on the other side of the cavern. Pick it up after you loot all items in this cave. While facing the shield, to the right, is another hidden chest. Destroy the crates to get near it.
Pick up the shield and equip it, then you will be attacked by two more Tuatha soldiers. Remember to block their attacks by pulling LT.
Objective 5: Equip the longbow
After you defeat them, check the highlighted corpse and pick the longbow.
Equip it as your secondary weapon then advance through the tunnel until you see two Tuatha archers in front of you. Take them out with your longbow, by pressing Y, then continue through the door opened by Encel.
Move forward and in the next area, kill the two soldiers, and look for a hidden chest to the right. Destroy the crates near the chest and continue following the ramp up.
When you exit the next tunnel you will see a waterfall, and near the exit two highlighted daggers. Pick them up, and equip them as secondary weapons.
Near the waterfall to the left is a hidden chest. Loot it then go right around the waterfall. When you exit the next tunnel, Encel asks you to assassinate the soldier in front of you.
It is a very useful method to kill your enemies quickly, but you have to be careful.
Press RB to enter stealth mode and move towards the target. Notice the eye above the soldiers head, and keep in mind that if the eye fills, you are spotted and the enemy will attack you.
Get close enough to use the daggers and press Y once to finish the Tuatha. Loot the soldiers corpse and equip the item you have found.
In front of you, there are two Tuatha archers. Assassinate one of them and kill the other one with your sword, then go right through the next door.
In the next cave you will learn how to use magic. Hold down RT and press X once to cast a spell on the device in front of you.
Now, explore the cave, and check the small desk on the right, because it contains a memo. There is also a chest near the exit, to the right. Exit the cave and proceed forward.
In the next area you will be attacked by a Giant Spider. These creatures are weak to magic attacks. Kill it and investigate the small entrance to the left, where you will find a chest.
Follow the main tunnel and you will see a dead soldier carrying a staff. You should pick it up and equip it, so you can burn the spider webs at the end of the tunnel.
Using the same staff, kill the Giant Spiders that attack you, and loot the spider sack in front of you, then follow the tunnel to the left.
Burn down the next spider web and take out two more spiders. Explore the cave, then proceed through the eastern tunnel.
To run, hold down A while moving.
Objective 6: Leave the Well of Souls
Move forward and you will enter a hall where you will meet some of Encels gnomes. Encel informs you that he must leave, but you should continue your quest.
If you persuade Encel, you will fail; however, this depends on the difficulty level you have selected.
While inside this hall you can talk to Aura Hanri, and several Praetorian soldiers, but they have nothing important to say.
Loot the three chests, and open the next gate.
Objective 7: Speak to Fomorous Hugues
Go up, following the stairs and then down, until you reach the Well of Souls. To the left, while facing the well, is a desk containing the Well Progress Log.
Take it, then follow the stairs to the south and open the next gate.
In the next area, just follow the stairs and you will reach Fomorous Hugues.
Fomorous Hugues tells his that the Well of Souls is his laboratory, and he is trying to find a way to reach immortality, but you are his first success.
He wants you to escape, because the Tuatha found the well and they come after it. During your conversation you the Tuatha attack, and you must run.
Objective 8: Escape Allestar Tower
While Hugues covers your escape you must exit.
Head north and follow the stairs up. Open the large door in front of you and continue up the stairs. Avoid the falling rocks and when you reach the top, get ready because two soldiers wait for you.
You can engage them directly, or you can assassinate them. Take out the one to the left first, and then the other one, while he patrols.
Loot the chest on the right side of the gate that allows you to exit, and go up. Loot another corpse on top of the stairs, then open the next gate when you are ready to fight a Rock Troll.
Objective 9: Defeat the Rock Troll
The Rock Troll is accompanied by two soldiers. Take those out first, then focus on the boss. Keep in mind that the Troll is resistant to magic, and the damage you inflict with spells is lower.
He uses a splash attack that you must avoid by rolling, and another melee attack using his club. You cant parry it and he will knock you down. Roll all the time.
After the second attack the Troll takes a small break, and thats when you have to go around the monster and attack him from behind.
If you manage to bring him close to a wall, use your daggers, because even if their damage is smaller, the attack speed is higher.
Mash the button and you will notice that the Troll will be stunned for a short period of time.
When you deplete his health a quick event starts. Press A, then tap X, to gain extra experience for defeating this creature.
Loot the Trolls corpse to get a shard and a ring, then exit through the only door in this chamber.
When you exit the tower, the area is complete and you will exit to Allestar Glade. The next area you should visit is Odarath.
