The final chapter in Injustice: Gods Among Us, the video game, is focused on one of the greatest superheroes of all time: Superman.
Superman is a playable character in story mode and a Power User. Developed by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster in 1933, Superman made his debut as a comic book superhero in Action Comics #1 (1938).
Also known as The Man of Steel, Kal-El was born on Krypton, a fictional planet that was destroyed immediately after his father, Jor-El, saved his son by sending him to Earth.
Winner of IGN’s Top 100 Comic Book Heroes from 2011, Superman plays a major role in Injustice: Gods Among Us, being both a savior and a destroyer of Metropolis.
Fooled by The Joker, who drugged him using one of Scarecrows toxins, Superman killed Lois Lane and his unborn child, believing that he was fighting Doomsday.
Without knowing that Joker attached a remote control to Loiss heart, Superman took her into the orbit where she died in his arms, thus triggering the explosion that destroyed Metropolis. Enraged and devastated by his loss, Superman returned to Earth where he found Joker inside a cell, answering Batman’s questions.
Without hesitation, Superman threw away Batman and impaled Joker using his fist. His action marks the forming of Supermans Regime and Batmans Insurgency, both factions fighting against each other.
In the parallel universe featured in Injustice: Gods Among Us, a positive version of Superman tries to find a way to pull back his friends who have been teleported by the leader of the Insurgents (Batman) to his world, in order to defeat Supermans Regime.
Chapter 12 in Injustice: Gods Among Us begins with a cutscene showing both versions of Batman activating a teleporter used by Superman to enter the parallel universe controlled by his tyrant duplicate. The plan is to take out the remaining members of the Regime, and then focus on their leader.
The next cutscene shows the battle between the followers of the Regime and the Insurgents. Most superheroes fight their nemesis, such as Green Lantern and Sinestro, but the war continues on the streets where Yellow Lantern encounters Cyborg, and Aquaman tries to stop the Regime version of Hawkgirl.
Green Arrow, Bane and Nightwing can also be observed during the sequence depicting Supermans arrival in Gotham, the city where the Insurgents and the Regime characters fight. When the Man of Steel asks them to stop and go home, Black Adam steps forward and the battle between them begins.
Using his ice-breath, Superman stops Black Adam, but he is attacked by Sinestro. Alas, Sinestros ring as well as the constructs he can create cant stop Superman, who removes the ring from Sinestros finger, and then he asks Yellow Lantern to give up his.
During the next cutscene, the Regime Aquaman uses a wave to protect his troops, while they advance on the streets; however, Superman arrives, freezing the wave and turning it into a giant piece of ice. Aquaman asks Superman if he is ready to take on the might of Atlantis.
Kal-El answers that they are, and Wonder Woman, surrounded by her Amazons, appears on top of the buildings. The next battle is between Aquaman and Superman. Supermans victory against Aquaman leads to a new fight, after the short dialogue he has with Wonder Woman.
Eventually, they are interrupted by Supermans biggest rival: Doomsday. Since the battle cant continue on Earth, Superman grabs Doomsday and flies back to his home planet: Krypton.
Once Doomsday is defeated, both versions of Superman meet, and the final fight in the video game begins. The Regime Superman points out that his tyranny perfected the world he lives in, and that Joker turned him into a weapon of mass destruction the moment he took Lois away from him.
His plan is to kill his duplicate and then pull Lois Lane from the alternate dimension. The last match marks the end of the game and unlocks the corresponding achievements and trophies.
