Injustice: Gods Among Us Shazam Character Guide

Unlike his nemesis, Black Adam, Shazam or Billy Baston uses the power of six ancient Greek gods and heroes to become one of the greatest superheroes of all time.

Helped by the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the stamina of Atlas, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles, and the speed of Mercury, Billy Baston turns into the superhero also known as Captain Marvel, when he says the word “Shazam!”

Created by C. C. Beck and Bill Parker in 1939, Shazam appeared for the first time in Whiz Comics #2 (1940).

As a playable character in Injustice: Gods Among Us the videogame, Shazam is a Power User and one of the characters that changes the course of events that unfold while playing the game in story mode.

During the introductory cutscene, Shazam is seen fighting Black Adam, while Hawkgirl and Wonder Woman try to stop Doomsday and Sinestro. Eventually, Shazam manages to defeat Black Adam and he pushes him towards Hawkgirl’s mace.

Moments later, Shazam stuns Black Adam, just in time for Doomsday to fall on him, being knocked down by Diana.

Green Arrow; however, saves Adam while Superman flies away carrying Doomsday. Shazam also witnesses the disappearance of Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Aquaman, Batman and the Joker, after the bomb threat triggered by Joker.

Despite Shazam’s tendency to fight crime, his parallel version appears as a member of Superman’s One World Regime. He can be seen playing the role of a messenger in Aquaman’s chapter, alongside Flash; and even fighting the King of Atlantis, without knowing that he fights Aquaman’s duplicate.

Shazam’s loyalty towards Superman; however, starts to fade away during the cutscene that introduces Deathstroke.

When Shazam and Flash discuss about Superman’s plan to use Batman as bait to catch the Insurgents, Billy doesn’t agree, but the conversation is interrupted by Deathstroke. After Slade defeats Flash, he also manages to win the fight against Shazam, the latter being teleported by Cyborg back to Earth where he fights Lex Luthor.

Confused by the fact that Luthor sided with the Insurgents, Shazam attacks him, but he is knocked out, just in time for Luthor to prepare his kryptonite weapon and aim it at Superman.

The Man of Steel is saved in the last moment by Shazam who wakes up and sends a lightning bolt towards Luthor; thus allowing Superman to kill Lex. His deed; however, is soon forgotten by Superman, later in the game, when all Regime members gather in the Fortress of Solitude.

Superman explains that he wishes to destroy both Gotham and Metropolis, followed by the parallel dimension from which the Insurgents came.

For Shazam, Superman’s plan is more than unacceptable, and he turns against him just to face the Man of Steel’s wrath. Incapacitated by Superman’s ice breath and unable to pronounce the magic word, Shazam finds his demise in the arms of Kal-El, who uses his heat vision to burn Billy Batson.

His sacrifice helps the Insurgents win the final battle, when his friend Flash leaves the Fortress of Solitude and warns them about Superman’s future plans.
