Voiced by Troy Baker, Nightwing is a playable character in Injustice: Gods Among Us, but he cant be accessed in story mode.
Nightwing debuted in 1940, in Detective Comics #38, but the events that occur in the videogame, reveal two versions of the same superhero. To better understand these events, one must know what happened to Nightwing in the comic book that serves as a prequel to the game.
The Injustice comic book presents Nightwing as a solo superhero, who joins the fight that takes place at the Justice League Watchtower, being summoned by Wonder Woman.
Also known as Robin, Nightwings real name is in fact Richard “Dick” Grayson. When he was a little boy, Dick fought alongside Batman; however, when he became a man, he took a new persona becoming Nightwing, the superhero featured in the videogame.
After Superman destroys Metropolis, Nightwing appears inside Batmans cave where Damian Wayne (Bruces son) is also present. When the Man of Steel announces that he intends to burn Arkham Asylum to the ground, Batman and Nightwing decide to stop him; however, Damians reaction is quite different than what Batman was expecting, since his son embraces Supermans decision.
Later, Nightwing (Dick Grayson) and Robin (Damian Wayne) appear at Arkham Asylum fighting the inmates, one of them being the Riddler. Eventually, Robin knocks down the Riddler, but continues to beat him.
Nightwing orders him to stop, pointing out that “Robin doesn’t beat people once they’re down!.
This is the moment when Damian Wayne loses his temper and he throws one of his sticks at Nightwing. Caught unprepared, Dick Grayson is struck by the stick, he falls to the ground and breaks his neck.
Moments later, horrified, Batman exits Arkham Asylum, carrying Nightwings body and mentioning that his son is dead.
Throughout the video game, Nightwing can be seen during that attack that occurs at the Watchtower. He helps Raven and Cyborg against Lex Luthor, Bane, Solomon Grundy, and Catwoman.
Nightwing’s alternate version, however, is one of Supermans allies and players can observe that he wears a different costume. Since the events occur after Dick’s death, the new Nightwing is Bruces son, Damian.
Costumes and Skins
Nightwing is the only character in the video-game to wear an alternate costume that hides another person.
Behind Nightwings default costume is Dick Grayson, while Damian Wayne wears the red and black version of the costume (New 52), which is unlocked by reaching level 30.
