Lex Luthor becomes the main character in Injustice: Gods Among Us, during Chapter 9 of the video game developed by NetherRealm Studios for iOs, PlayStation 3, Wii U and Xbox 360.
Created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, the fictional character known as Lex Luthor debuted in Action Comics #23, in 1940.
In the video game, Lex Luthor is a Power User and a member of Batman’s Insurgency, even if during several cutscenes he appears talking to Superman and he accepts to help the Man of Steel who wishes to eradicate all Insurgents.
Lex Luthors chapter begins after Batmans second chapter which presents the Battle of Stykers Island.
While Aquaman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman and other members of the Insurgency fight Supermans Regime, Batman and Green Arrow, helped by the diversion created, try to infiltrate the prison in which the alternate version of Batman is being held captive by Superman.
Unfortunately, they are discovered by Catwoman and Nightwing, both of them being Batmans opponents. The fight against Nightwing however, reveals the fact that in the parallel universe he is Damian Wayne, not Dick Grayson, the latter being killed by Damian.
Even if he fights against his son; Batman remains focused on his goal, and eventually reaches his alternate versions prison cell. After he opens the cell and sets him free, Batman is suddenly attacked by Green Arrow who is mind-controlled by Raven.
The Dark Knight defeats his friend and both of them work together trying to escape Supermans prison, but they are interrupted by the Regime version of Green Arrow, wearing the Yellow Costume.
The final battle in Chapter 8 takes place between Batman and Supermans ally, Green Arrow. In the meantime, the Battle of Stykers Island continues, with the Insurgents trying to stop Supermans Regime. Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Green Arrow unite their forces against the Man of Steel, while Batman escapes the prison accompanied by Green Arrow.
The Man of Steel notices their attempt to escape, and rushes to stop them. During the discussion he has with Batman, Kal-El explains that many innocent people died in Metropolis, including his family because he didnt use all his powers.
Bruce Wayne tells him that he lost his family as well, and those events didnt turn him into a tyrant. Superman quickly replies that unlike him, Batman wasnt the gun.
Supermans answer is a reference to the events that occurred earlier, when he was tricked by The Joker into killing Lois Lane and his son. After the conversation he has with Superman, Batman, Green Arrow and the alternate version of Bruce Wayne, jump from a cliff, just in time to be teleported by Cyborg.
Clark Kent realizes that the Insurgents took over the Watchtower and he tries to reach it, just to see it being destroyed by an explosion, which sends the Man of Steel back into the atmosphere. While he watches over Stykers Island, Superman hears Lex Luthor calling for him, but the time rewinds in order to explain how Lex Luthor reached Stykers Island.
Back in his laboratory Lex Luthor watches the news relating the Battle of Stykers Island, when he decides to enter the fight and help the Insurgents. Using the propulsion system of his power suit he flies toward Stykers Island but two missiles take him down.
On the streets of Metropolis, he encounters The Joker and Harley Quinn, who dont know that Lex Luthor worked undercover for the Insurgents. In the parallel universe, Superman and Lex Luthor were best friends according to Harley Quinn.
Hence a fight between Harley Quinn and Lex Luthor is inevitable. His victory only angers The Joker who steps in when Lex tries to stop him from killing Harley. After Lex saves Harley he enters the fight between the Insurgents and the Regime, where he assists Green Lantern who tries to stop Black Adam and Hawkgirl.
After he defeats Hawkgirl, Lex Luthor tries to retrieve her Nth belt, but Shazam appears and stops him. After the final battle against Shazam, the Watchtower explodes and Lex Luthor equipped with the kryptonite weapon provokes the Man of Steel who flies towards him.
Confused by Lex Luthors betrayal, Shazam electrocutes Luthors power suit offering enough time for Superman to take down his nemesis.
Amazed that Lex Luthor is Batmans ally, and enraged when Lex tells him that his peace is a joke, Superman strangulates his rival in front of the Hall of Justice, and then he flies away. Lex Luthor plays an important role in Injustice: Gods Among Us and he is the first character who dies during the game, being killed by Superman.
Even if he moves slower than other characters because of his power suit, Lex Luthors basic attacks, combos and special moves can be devastating.
His energy shield allows him to absorb hits, while during his super move Lex Luthor calls down a laser beam that hits his rival inflicting a high amount of damage.
