A Professor’s Protégé – Gigantoad, or Sania’s third Final Fantasy XV side-quest, becomes available after you complete A Professor’s Protégé – Yellow Frogs.
For A Professor’s Protégé – Gigantoad quest; however, you need to travel to Old Lestallum, because at the end of the previous side-quest, Sania relocates to this new location.
If you can’t enter Cleigne because of the Imperial blockades, you should focus on completing several story quests, and when the Imperial blockades are removed, drive to Old Lestallum Outpost which is located north-east of Fort Vaullerey.
Look for Gladio’s friend Sania next to a street vendor, and she will send you to kill a Gigantoad and bring her a Slimy Oil.
Before heading to the specified area, you might want to check your inventory because maybe you already got a Slimy Oil collected while exploring the world. If not, here is how to get one.
Objective: Head to the Specified Area
For this quest, Sania will send you west from her location, near Malmalam Thicket dungeon. Obviously, that is a good place to hunt a Gigantoad, but we suggest you to head northeast, to Alstor Slough.
From there, go to Ausace Haven Campground and make sure it’s raining outside. If it’s not, the Gigantoad will not spawn.
If this is the case, simply rest at the said campground and fast forward the time until it starts raining.
When the weather changes, move north and you should see a Gigantoad in the woods.
Objective: Slay A Gigantoad
The Gigantoad in FFXV is a beast weak to ice spells, machineries and pole-arms, therefore you should always use these weapons if you want to inflict 120% damage.
Fire spells deal only 50% damage as well as light spells. Other weapons inflict 100% damage.
The toad’s tongue will knock you down, while its roll over attack will inflict impressive damage. Try to block it at all costs or step away from it.
The techniques you should use are Ignis’s Enhancement and Prompto’s Recoil. The first one will allow Ignis to imbue your weapon with ice for increased damage. Alternatively, you can use Prompto’s Gravisphere to stun the Gigantoad for several seconds, allowing Noctis to deploy a series of unlockable strikes.
At the end of the fight if the Slimy Oil doesn’t drop, head to the nearby camp and rest.
Repeat the whole process and slay Gigantoads until you get the Slimy Oil.
Objective: Give the Slimy Oil to Sania
After you finally collect the Slimy Oil, go back to Sania and hand it over to complete the current quest.
In return she will reward you with a Moon Pendant and the corresponding EXP. Last but not least you will also unlock the fourth side-quest in Sania’s quest-line (A Professor’s Protégé – Wyvern).
