A. Bundesliga is the highest league in Austria. The second division is called First League. A. Bundesliga is also known as tipp3-Bundesliga powered by T-Mobile.
The first season in A. Bundesliga took place between 1974 and 1975. Since December 1991, it became a separate registered association. SK Rapid Wien recorded most victories; with 32 national titles, and FK Austria Wien was the best team in A. Bundesliga for 23 times.
Soccer was played in Austria since 1890. The first amateur league was created in 1911 and was called First Austrian Football Championship.

The football season in Austria is divided in spring and autumn seasons. The football season usually lasts from July until June.
The team that finishes last is relegated to ADEG Erste Liga.
The team that wins the title qualifies for UEFA Champions Cup. The second, the third team and the Austrian Cup winner play in the UEFA Europa League. If the Austrian Cup winner is the same as the championship winner, then the 4th team goes to UEFA Europa League.
