The following Black Ops Annihilation game guide presents the third map pack developed by Treyarch, for the first-person shooter Call of Duty: Black Ops, or (COD BO), which was released on June 28, 2011 for Xbox 360.

The first DLC in the series was Call of Duty: Black Ops First Strike, released on February 1, 2011, and the second was Call of Duty: Black Ops Escalation, released on May 3, 2011.

Similar to all Call of Duty: Black Ops map packs previously released, Annihilation includes five multiplayer maps and one zombie map.

Xbox 360 users who want to purchase the Call of Duty: Black Ops Annihilation map pack DLC, need an active internet connection, an Xbox Live account, 1200 Microsoft Points (MSP) and a version of Call of Duty: Black Ops.

After Annihilation is downloaded, players will have access to the following maps: Hangar 18, Silo, Hazard, Drive-In and Shangri-La.

Hangar 18 Map -– Multiplayer

Hangar 18 is an urban multiplayer map included in theAnnihilation map pack released on June 28, 2011. On the game’s official website, Hangar 18 is describes as being located…

“…in the highly classified military base of Area 51 where you will fight through experimental weapons labs, the SR-71 test hangar, and a mysterious autopsy room.”

In Call of Duty: Black Ops Annihilation the map’s description offers additional information regarding the teams that are available on this map:

“Soviet forces have infiltrated a highly classified U.S. facility.”

According to the game’s wiki, Hangar 18 is a canceled map, previously known as Area 51.

It features multiple easter eggs and even the name given by developers it is a reference to Hangar 18, where it is said that the Alien Technology is stored by U.S. in order to keep it secret.

Black Ops Annihilation Maps: Silo Map – Multiplayer

“Silo, infiltrate a massive secret Soviet nuclear missile site under construction in this multilevel battleground.”

Since Silo is a multilevel map, it is considered one of the largest maps in Call of Duty: Black Ops. Additionally, it is an urban map and the action takes place in USSR, a fact also indicated by the map’s in-game description:

“Conflict erupts at a missile launch facility. Lots of close engagements and flank routes”

Players can join one of the two factions that fight on this map: the Spetsnaz or the Black Ops.

Silo features interactive environments and it is a map favored by players who prefer to flank. At every minute, players can observe a rocket that launches outside the map.

Hazard Map -– Multiplayer

“Hazard, play through this coastal golf course fit for a Dictator, on the cliff sides of Cuba, where stocked clubhouses and manicured fairways meet snipers hidden in sand traps.”

Hazard is the third multiplayer map featured in Call of Duty: Black Ops Annihilation. It is a multiplayer map inspired by a golf course from Cuba. The factions available in Hazard are Op 40 and Tropas.

According to the map’s in-game description, the player has to

“Keep an eye out for snipers as you battle up and down the fairway of this cliffside golf course.”

Hazard is a large map, preferred by fast snipers who are able to hit their targets located across the battlefield. The golf course from Hazard includes multiple golf carts that can offer cover, as well as high spots favored by campers.

Inside the pool available on this map, is a candy bar which is in fact a reference to the Caddyshack motion picture. The map also features a practice room and inside it is a clock which shows the same time as the player’s Xbox 360.

Drive-In Map –- Multiplayer

“Drive-In”, close quarters combat through a 60’s American Drive-In theater, complete with a snack shack and a classic arcade.

Drive-In is a medium map featuring “Close-quarter fights … at an abandoned outdoor cinema”. The teams fighting on this Annihilation map are the Spetsnaz and the Black Ops.

Drive-In is similar to Nuketown but the action takes place in a city area. On Drive-In, snipers prefer to hide behind a large movie screen which offers a better view over the whole area.

This map also features an Arcade with several mini-games including a “Call of Duty World at War” game.

Shangri-La Map -– Zombie

“Zombies are back in “Annihilation”, as players unearth the mysteries of “Shangri-La,” a legendary shrine lost in an exotic jungle, where new undead species lurk within a treacherous labyrinth of underground caverns. Navigate through deadly traps and solve the dark secrets buried within the shifting walls of this zombie infested temple.”

Shangri-La is a zombie map that will become available to players who decide to purchase Call of Duty: Black Ops Annihilation. The map’s description in the game reveals that the action takes place near…

“A legendary shrine lost in an exotic jungle. Where the undead lurk within a treacherous labyrinth of underground caverns, deadly traps and dark secrets.”

The starting weapons on this map are the M1911n, the M67 Grenade and the Knife; but players will also be able to purchase other weapons, such as the Bowie Knife, the M14, the MP5k or the PM63.
