Along with other islands, Tulum is one of the major locations related to Edward’s story depicted in Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, and it plays an important role in completing the game and obtaining 100 % synchronization at the same time.
Located on the western side of the main map, Tulum includes multiple Mayan Temples surrounded by a luxurious jungle.
In Tulum, you will find 1 Mayan Stela and 12 collectibles from which 5 are Animus Fragments, and 7 are chests containing Reales and other valuable items.
If you don’t follow Edward’s story, and the main sequences in the video game, you will still have to visit Tulum, because the treasure map in Petite Caverne will bring you to this location.
Furthermore, once you complete all Mayan Stelae Puzzles in the game, you will return to Tulum to retrieve the Mayan Outfit located in the middle of the area.
No matter when and why you decide to explore Tulum, the collectibles revealed below, must be retrieved to get 100% sync for this specific zone.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Tulum Animus Fragments Locations
Animus Fragment 1
The first AC4 Animus Fragment you can retrieve in Tulum is located close to the northern viewpoint.
Climb the viewpoint on top of the Mayan pyramid, and perform a Leap of Faith while aiming for the fragment and the collectible below.
Animus Fragment 2
The second Animus Fragment is also easy to collect, and it can be found in the middle of the village where the assassins gather. Look for it on a log, above one of the paths in the village. Walk on the said log to get the fragment.
Animus Fragment 3
After you get the second fragment, focus on finding the third and go south from your current position. Look for a path through the forest and you will enter a larger area, where the fragment is located.
Hop on the tree and walk on its trunk until you reach the other side and the collectable. Jump once on the branch in front of you.
Animus Fragment 4
After you collect the fifth chest, continue to advance south and stay close to the right side of the mountain, to find another path through the jungle. The path will take you to the fourth Animus Fragment in Tulum, located on top of a pillar made of stone.
You can climb the structure or jump on it.
Animus Fragment 5
The last Animus Fragment in Tulum is similar to the first one, because it is also near a viewpoint, but it is on the southern beach.
Climb the point and jump into the ocean (Leap of Faith).
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Tulum Chests Locations
Chest 1
The first chest, marked on the map above, is in the northern part of the area. When you get close to it, look for some wooden stairs, close to the mountain.
Go up the stairs, and pay close attention to your right, because you have to find an entrance that will lead you to an area inside the mountain. On the ground is the chest, and inside it 191 Reales, a porcelain salver (30 R) and an emerald (110 R).
Chest 2
The second Tulum chest is inside a Mayan Temple, west from the first one. The chest contains 331 Reales.
Chest 3
Chest #3, is south from the previous one. It is located outside, within the Mayan ruins, behind a wall. Inside you will find 326 Reales.
Chest 4
Continue to move south after the third chest, and go around the jungle and the ruins, until you see a large temple. Outside, while facing the temple, go right, around it, to find the fourth chest. Loot it for 211 Reales and a silver cross (90 Reales).
Chest 5
Inside the fifth chest you will find 2 bullets for Edward’s pistols and 323 Reales. The chest is located in the southernmost point of Tulum, on the beach, close to the mountain.
Chest 6
The last chest in Tulum is on the same beach as the fifth, but to the north. Look for it behind a large rock and close to a bush. If you loot it you will earn around 300 Reales.
