Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Naval Contracts Guide

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Naval Contracts are side missions you can complete while playing AC4, but unlike other activities they have specific requirements.

To unlock an Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Naval Contract, you need to discover it by conquering a Naval Fort.

AC4 features 15 Naval Contracts that can be completed to unlock the corresponding achievement/trophy; however, these contracts also award you large amounts of money.

Furthermore if you manage to beat all Naval Contracts, you will be able to unlock the Golden Flintlock Pistols.

The Naval Contracts in Assassin’s Creed 4 have different objectives. You will be asked to loot specific materials, to destroy specific ships, or to protect friendly ships. Unlike the Assassin Contracts, the naval contracts are played exclusively on the water, and they feature various difficulty levels, which determine the rewards you receive.

To successfully complete a contract, you need to prepare your ship accordingly; therefore, you should attempt them only when you have a full crew, enough ammo, and as many upgrades as possible installed on Jackdaw.

Some contracts on the other hand, require specific tactics or strategies, and the following walkthroughs offer tips and hints on how to complete all Naval Contracts in Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Naval Contracts Guide

Total number of naval contracts: 15

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Naval Contract 01: Eye For An Eye

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Naval Contract 1: Eye For An Eye is the only Naval Contract you can retrieve from Castillo de Jagua, the fort that you conquer in AC4.

It is a level 3 contract in which you will have to find the ship named San Lorenzo and board it. The ship is located north-east from The Black Trench and it is a level 23 frigate, easy to destroy if you upgraded the Jackdaw.

The mortars should be your primary weapons in this mission, because they allow you to maintain a safe distance. When the bar above the ship reaches the red zone you have to approach it and board it. If you destroy it you will fail the mission. When you get to the ship, kill 15 crew members, then reach the highest mast and cut the flag.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Naval Contract 02: The Law Of The Ocean

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Naval Contract 02: The Law Of The Ocean can be triggered by conquering the Conttoyor Naval Fort.

The payout is 1800 Reales and its difficulty is medium, which means that you can complete it even if you didn’t purchase all upgrades for the Jackdaw.

For the AC4 Black Flag Naval Contract 02: The Law Of The Ocean, you will have to sail south from the fort and north from Tulum.

When you get close to the location you will trigger a cutscene and you will be asked to board the Hercules. Hercules is accompanied by gunboats, that can be rammed; however if you destroy Hercules you will fail the mission.

Because the ships are close to each other, use the mortars first to damage them, and then focus your fire on Hercules. After you stop it, get close and board. Kill 10 enemies to complete the objective, and then use Hercules to repair your ship, in case you will be followed by the remaining enemies.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Naval Contract 03: A Spanish Plague

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag A Spanish Plague Naval Contract becomes available after you conquer the fort named Eleuthera.

A Spanish Plague is an accessible contract which doesn’t require a large number of ship upgrades, because your targets are three Spanish gunboats. The gunboats are small vessels that patrol around Eleuthera. You will find them quickly, but you have to make sure that you don’t attack larger ships.

Most gunboats in Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag are level 1 vessels that don’t carry precious cargo. To identify them use the binoculars and try to get close so you can take them out with your cannons. Make sure that one side of your ship is aligned with the target you wish to destroy, and fire your cannons as soon as they are loaded.

If you installed the level 2 ram strength upgrade on Jackdaw you can ram them. The contract ends when you destroy 3 Spanish gunboats and you will receive 1200 R.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Naval Contract 04: Driftwood

Similar to the contract named Silk on the Waters, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Naval Contract 4: Driftwood is a contract in which you will be asked to deliver a specific number of materials.

As the name implies, in this contract you will have to deliver 60 units of wood. If you have the materials, you should complete it immediately, but if you don’t, then you have to loot them. Since most ships carry wood, you won’t encounter difficulties in completing the contract, but you have to be aware that if you sink a ship instead of boarding it, you will lose half of the materials the ship is carrying.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Naval Contract 05: Silk On The Waves

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Silk On The Waves Naval Contract can be accessed by conquering Gibara.

For this contract you will be asked by a merchant to loot 30 pieces of cloth and return them to him. In exchange he will pay you 1200 R. The contract can be completed faster if you already have the required materials, but if you don’t have them you have to find a ship that carries them.

Since Gibara is always surrounded by the ships of your enemies, use the binoculars to identify their cargo, which is displayed on the right side of the screen. When you locate a ship carrying cloth, attack it, but don’t sink it.

Instead, board the ship to save all materials it carries and then return them to the merchant.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Naval Contract 06: Contraband

To play Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Naval Contract 06: Contraband, you need to conquer the Chinchorro Naval Fort.

AC4 Naval Contract 06: Contraband is one of the two contracts you can trigger in the fort. Contract 06: Contraband is a high difficulty mission; therefore, a level 4 hull is required along with the level 3 upgrade for the mortars.

For this mission you will be asked to sink one Spanish frigate and 2 Spanish brigs, all of them patrolling around the fort. First, you should take out the frigate, using the mortars. After you stop it, board the ship and use the materials to repair the Jackdaw.

Next, destroy  the remaining two brigs. If you encounter difficulties, you can opt to attack the ships, and then return close to the fort to receive help from the defensive structures.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Naval Contract 07: Private Escort

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Private Escort Naval Contract is a level 5 contract that can be unlocked by conquering Dry Tortuga.

For finishing the Private Escort Contract you will receive 2400 R; however, since it is a difficult assignment you shouldn’t attempt it without installing the proper upgrades. Your ship’s hull should be at least level 2, you need a full crew and you also need mortars.

For this contract you will have to protect Neptuno, located in the center of the green area that appears on your map. Neptuno is marked by a blue dot, while your enemies will be marked by red dots. Even if you will see only two gunboats when you reach your destination, you should be aware that more enemies will spawn.

It is important in this mission to avoid hitting Neptuno and draw the attention of your enemies. They will attack in waves and the mortars will play an important role, because the larger ships will try to ram you. If you see one of them heading towards you, speed up to avoid a collision. If you can’t avoid it, fire your mortars.

Patrol around Neptuno and keep an eye on your ally. The swivels are also important and you should fire them each time you see the small yellow target on an enemy ship.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Naval Contract 08: Blind Justice

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Naval Contract 08: Blind Justice is the first contract available in Navassa Naval Fort. Being a medium fort, Blind Justice is a medium Naval Contract, but there are still several upgrades you need to purchase such as level 2 mortars, especially because your target is a British Man O’War.

Its location is close to Ile a Vache, but you won’t be able to see it, until you destroy the British Escort.

There are three level 17 brigs, which are not difficult to destroy if you aim your mortars at the brig in the middle. After you take out the escort, the British Man O’War will spawn nearby. Fire the mortars the moment you see the large ship and stay in front of it, or behind it.

Avoid its sides because it is equipped with multiple cannons. Make sure you don’t sink it because you will fail the mission. Instead, board it and kill its captain and 20 crew members.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Naval Contract 09: The Final Contract

In Serranilla you can trigger the final Naval Contract; however, unlike other missions, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Naval Contract 09: The Final Contract has specific requirements.

To be able to play AC4 Naval Contract 09: The Final Contract, you have to complete all other contracts.

The Final Contract is a level 5 mission (hard) in which you will be asked to protect a ship named The Hollander. If you unlocked the mission, it means that your ship is upgraded and you already know how to board and how to fire mortars.

Again, the mortars play an important role, because The Hollander is attacked by waves of enemies that stay close to each other. The final wave includes a level 60 Man O’War, which should become your primary target the moment you see it.

Patrol around The Hollander all the time to prevent it from taking damage, and use as many mortars as you can.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Naval Contract 10: The Realities Of War

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Naval Contract 10: The Realities Of War is a naval contract that can be activated in Conttoyor, after you complete The Law Of The Ocean.

Unlike the previous contract, it is a high difficulty contract, but the payout is 2400 Reales. You should attempt this contract only after you purchase a level 4 hull armor, because you will face multiple enemies, one of them being a level 36 Man O’War.

After you start the contract you will have to meet with your allies, located close to you. Sail near them and a series of icons will appear on your minimap, indicating your enemies.

At this point, you should leave the group and take out as many brigs as you can. Your enemies will handle the remaining ships, and you don’t have to protect them. When the second group of ships spawn (including the Man O’War), focus your mortars on them. Your primary target is the large ship.

Stay as far as possible until you empty your mortars, and then engage in close combat or use the cannons. Sink all ships or board them if you wish to gain more materials.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Naval Contract 11: Hunter Gatherer

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Naval Contract 11: Hunter Gatherer is triggered by conquering the Naval Fort named Charlotte.

It is the first contract in a series of two, and it is a level 5 (hard) mission; therefore, you will receive 2400 Reales for completing it. In Hunter Gatherer, your goal is to sink 2 Hunter ships; however, unlike other ships, they must be forced to appear, by increasing your wanted level.

If you don’t have enough upgrades installed on the Jackdaw, start hunting smaller ships around the island, and sink them. With each ship you sink, your wanted level increases, and eventually, a Hunter ship will come after you.

When it does focus your fire on it and sink it. The Hunter ships are not very powerful, but the difficulty level of the mission is given by the ships near Charlotte, most of them being frigates and Man O’War. You can sink them too, if you want, but if you do, make sure you clear the area before the Hunter ships appear.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Naval Contract 12: Papers, Please

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Naval Contract 12: Papers, Please is the second contract you can complete in Charlotte, and it is also a difficult mission.

AC 4 Naval Contract 12: Papers, Please requires the previous contract (Hunter Gatherer), and a number of upgrades installed on the Jackdaw, because your target is HMS Courage, a level 60 Man O’War.

You will find it in the center of the green circle marked on your map. When you get close to it, make sure that you tag it, because HMS Protestant Caesar may be there as well, and if you attack it you will have to fight two ships. HMS Courage is a powerful ship, but also a slow one. Sail around it as far as possible firing the mortars.

A level 3 upgrade on Jackdaw’s mortars will make the difference in the battle against HMS Courage. Don’t get too close to its sides because you will be an easy target for its cannons.

After you destroy the ship, board it because it carries 2000 Reales and multiple materials.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Naval Contract 13: Weathering The Storm

Naval Contract 13: Weathering The Storm is a low level contract and the only assignment you can trigger in Punta Guarico.

To complete the mission you have to destroy 5 British ships located south east from the fort. While the contract is accessible, meaning that you can destroy a ship with a single fire from a level 3 mortar, the weather is the biggest threat.

Make sure that when a killer wave is near, you head straight ahead, and you try to cut it. If the wave hits one of your ship’s sides, you will take damage.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Naval Contract 14: Smuggler’s Den

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Naval Contract 14: Smuggler’s Den is the second Naval Contract you can trigger in Chinchorro, after you complete Contraband.

Similar to the first contract, it is a level 5 assignment, meaning that the upgrades you have installed on the Jackdaw are important. The payout is 2400 Reales, and you will be asked to find several Spanish ships, located near Corozal.

When you reach their location you will find a level 36 Man O’War, surrounded by smaller ships. Since they are grouped near the island, fire as many mortars as you can aiming for the  Man O’War, because you will also deal damage to the smaller ships.

When the Man O’War, starts moving towards you, sail away from the island and continue to fire your mortars. If you run out of mortars turn around so you can use your cannons.

You should avoid sinking the ships you have destroyed, because if you board them you will be able to retrieve additional ammo and also repair your ship; thus being able to continue the battle.

The frigates and the brigs should be your main targets after you destroy the Man O’War. Once you clear the area, search the coast of the island for multiple crates containing valuable materials.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Naval Contract 15: A Personal Matter

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Naval Contract 15: A Personal Matter is the second contract that can be triggered in Navassa.

For the Naval Contract 15: A Personal Matter, you need to locate and sink HMS Defiance, a level 29 frigate sailing very close to Navassa.

During this mission you will receive help from a nearby ship, and you won’t encounter difficulties if you have installed the level 3 mortars on your ship and a level 4 hull armor. If your allies are destroyed try to make your target follow you near your fort, and the defenses will destroy the ship.
