Witcher 2 Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition Walkthrough: Trial By Fire Quest

In The Witcher 2 Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition, Trial By Fire is a quest that must be completed during the game’s prologue.

The quest starts during Roche’s interrogation regarding the events that took place after Aryan’s defeat.

Unlike other Witcher 2 main-quests, Trial By Fire is shorter.

Along with Foltest and Triss Merigold, Geralt of Rivia reaches the final tower that stands between Foltest and his bastard kids.

Unfortunately, the tower’s gate is locked, but Roche appears on the other side, and takes out the guards, allowing the party to advance.

Suddenly, you will be attacked by a dragon.

The first goal of this quest is to reach the other side of the area, and kill the soldiers protecting the gate.

The dragon’s attacks are devastating, and the only thing you can do is to start running.

Using the wooden structure on the left side of the courtyard to protect yourself, is a good idea, as long as you don’t stay too much in one place.

Combat Tip: The Quen Sign increases your defense against the dragon’s attacks, allowing you to reach the gate on the other side.

The gate is well protected by knights, but fortunately, the dragon’s flames won’t reach you there, allowing you to focus on your attackers.

Combat Tip: Switch to the Aard Sign during this combat phase.

After you kill all guards, Triss blows up the gate allowing you to advance. While she stops the ceiling from falling, continue to follow Roche and Foltest. Cross the burning bridge quickly and watch the next cutscene.

Note: Trial By Fire ends here and you will return to Roche’s interrogation room. You will be asked to finish your story.

Tell Roche that you and your party split up at the monastery, to begin the next quest in line: To the Temple.
