Witcher 2 Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition Walkthrough: The Dungeons of the La Valettes Quest

After you complete the quest called Blood of His Blood, in Witcher 2 Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition, you will have the chance  to start the next quest in line, a quest named The Dungeons of the La Valettes.

Roche agreed to help you escape the prison, and gave you the key during the previous quest featured in the game’s Prologue.

With the key in hand, you return to your cell, where the guards you saw earlier, continue to play a game of poker dice.

To escape, make sure Geralt provokes the guards, and get ready for a fist-fight.

To beat the guards, you have to complete a series of quick-time events by pressing the corresponding buttons that appear on your screen.

When both guards have been defeated, loot the bag on the floor to get the key to your cell and then open the door.

Exit your cell and look around for some equipment, near the stairs, then go up.

Tip: Don’t forget to equip the items you have picked up.

When you reach the door a quick tutorial will pop-up, teaching you how to sneak and how to put out the torches inside the prison. If you take a look at your mini-map you should see a guard behind the first door.

Open the door, and go left, inside the opened cell. Make sure you hide, and then wait for the guard to pass towards the door you opened earlier. Exit the cell and stun the guard while standing behind him.

Now continue to follow the stairs and in front of you, appears a door made of wood. At this point you will have to make a choice and you will see the consequences of your actions during the siege of the La Valette castle.

Option 1 -– Left Corridor

While facing the wooden door, you go left, and kill the guards nearby. Don’t forget to turn off the torches and stun the guards. If you turn off a torch the guards will come to light it. Use this in your advantage to draw their attention. Continue to advance and keep in mind that you can also hide behind barrels.

Eventually, you will enter a chamber to the right, and a cutscene will start. The scene may be different, because it was affected by your actions during the siege.

If you allowed Aryan La Valette to surrender, you will see him and two guards. Watch the cutscene showing Aryan who overpowers the guards.

After you talk to him, you will be asked to clear the way out, then return for him. When you return, Aryan will show you a secret passage (to the left) which allows you to escape, while he stands behind and distracts the remaining guards.

If during the siege, you have killed Aryan La Valette, the cutscene shows Baroness Louisa La Valette accompanied by Shilard, the Nilfgaardian ambassador.

Follow the stairs up, and kill the prison guards. You will enter a room and you will have the chance to talk to Shilard and Louisa.

Shilard agrees to help you escape since you already helped his master (Emperor Emhyr) in the past. When Shilard calls the guards and tells them that you escaped, open your map and head north to reach the marked door, which takes you outside.

Option 2 –- Right Corridor

While standing in front of the wooden door, you can go right, and follow the stairs up. Stun the guard inside and make sure you loot the body, because it carries a key.

Go back down and open the wooden door which takes you inside a small room. Search the floor for a trapdoor and jump down. Continue to explore the passage, and you will reach more stairs. If you go up you will hear a dialogue between an executioner and one of the following characters:

Aryan, if you spared his life during the siege. You can peek through the hole in the wall.

Baroness Louisa La Valette, if you killed Aryan in the tower.

In both cases, the executioner wants a signature from his prisoner. To continue, go right and climb the left wall to reach the window. Jump down, then stun the scribe (the one dressed in black). Your action will draw the executioner’s attention, so stay alert.

Combat Tip: Don’t forget that even if you don’t have any decent weapons, you can still dodge and use your signs.

After you defeat the executioner, Aryan (assuming he is alive) will ask you to free him and he will tell you about the secret passage that can be used to escape.  If the prisoner is Louisa La Valette, Shilard appears and after a quick discussion you are allowed to escape.

As long as you stay in the shadows, and you turn off all torches, you won’t have any problems, because you will be able to stun almost all guards.

When you reach the exit, an old friend appears. It is Newboy (Melitele’s Heart side-quest) who thanks you for telling him that the amulet had no magic properties.

NOTE: Newboy appears only if you told him that you doubt that the bauble will protect him during the assault.

While Newboy distracts the guards, go to the docks and you will see Triss.

NOTE: If the guards see you, you must fight them, and in this case Newboy may become hostile. If you kill him, make sure you grab the amulet from him. If you stay close to Newboy, the guards will take care of him and all you have to do is to pick up the amulet. Don’t leave this area without the amulet, even if you have to kill everyone.

After you complete this task, get on the riverboat with Triss and Roche, to complete the Prologue and The Dungeons of the La Valettes quest.

New achievement unlocked: The Fugitive. Your next destination is Flotsam. Act I begins now.
