Risen 2: Dark Waters or simply Risen 2, is a role-playing pirate-themed video game developed by Piranha Bytes and Wizarbox, for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
The PC version of Risen 2 became available on April 24, 2012 in North America, and April 27, 2012 in Europe; while Risen 2 for PS3 and Xbox 360 was scheduled for release on July 31, 2012 in North America and August 3, 2012 in Europe.
Risen 2 is the direct sequel to Risen, the RPG released in 2009, but unlike the previous game in the franchise, it features a different setting.
The hero, who also appeared in the first video game, continues his adventures along the Inquisition, but in the second game, he is older and wiser.
The plot in Risen 2: Dark Waters presents a catastrophic event that occurs during the fight between two gods: Ursegor and Ismael. While the gods continue their war, the Inquisition, remains blocked inside an outpost on the Island of Caldera.
Their retreat to the New World is stopped by a Titan goddess named Mara, who releases a Kraken which destroys all ships that sail near the outpost.
Without supplies, the Inquisition, must find a way to kill the Kraken and Mara; however, the only method to do it, is to locate and retrieve four powerful artifacts scattered on the islands nearby.
The Nameless Hero is appointed to complete this task, which will eventually allow the Inquisition to flee to the New World.
As a RPG, Risen 2: Dark Waters features a vast series of quests that can be completed while exploring the exotic islands near Caldera, searching for the missing artifacts.
Completing all quests in the game, is essential for those who wish to beat the game, since most quests award Glory Points that are used to improve the characters skills and attributes. Additionally, the Risen 2: Dark Waters quests also award gold that can be spent to purchase better weapons and equipment.
