FIFA Soccer 2012 was published by EA Sports and was released in September 2011 for Xbox360, PC, Nintendo Wii, Nintendo 3DS, PS3, PS2, PSP, Xperia Play and iOS. It is also a confirmed title for PS Vita.

The guide below presents the Major League Soccer (MLS) and the teams that play in it, exactly as they appear in FIFA 12.

MLS is the United States football (soccer) league. It was created in 1993, When U.S.A won the bid to host the 1994 FIFA World Cup. MLS is unique because the teams are owned by the league, but the investors operate them.

The first season was played in 1996 with 10 teams in the league. The teams were: Columbus Crew, NY/NJ MetroStars, New England Revolution, Tampa Bay Mutiny, Dallas Burn, Kansas City Wiz, Colorado Rapids, D.C. United, Los Angeles Galaxy and San Jose Clash.

As of 2011, there are 19 teams competing, 16 from U.S and 3 from Canada.

The season starts in March and ends in October. The Supporters’ Shield is awarded to the team with the most points at the end of the season. After the regular season, the MLS Cup Playoff starts with 10 teams competing.

In 2004 Freddy Adu became the youngest player in the MLS history, being considered a hot prospect for the future. He signed a contract with DC United because he lived near the club and currently (as of November 2011), he is playing for Philadelphia Union.

The MLS Reserve Division was created in 2005 to help the reserve squads gain some playing time.

After the 2006 World Cup, some of the homegrown stars like Tim Howard, DaMarcus Beasley, and Landon Donovan went to play in Europe for clubs such as Man United, Bayern Leverkusen or PSV Eindhoven.

In 2007 David Beckham signed with Los Angeles Galaxy a 4 year contract. Veteran homegrown players Claudio Reyna and Brian McBride returned to play in the MLS after the departure of Jozy Altidore and Clint Dempsey.

Other international players like Juan Pablo Angel, Guillermo Barros Schelotto, Freddie Ljungberg or Thierry Henry (best scorer at Arsenal FC), followed Beckham to MLS.
