Up to 61 Dead Island Riptide Collectables can be acquired in the role-playing survival horror video game developed by Techland.
Published by Deep Silver in April 2013 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Windows, Dead Island Riptide is the official sequel for the Dead Island videogame released in 2011.
After the original protagonists, Sam B, Xian Mei, Logan Carter, and Purna, escape the island of Banoi in Dead Island, they arrive with a chopper on an aircraft carrier where theyre supposed to be rescued. However, it turns out that they were only rescued in order to be studied for their immunity against the infection.
But the crew becomes infected and the survivors shipwreck on an island named Palanai. Here they must once again fight off hordes of zombies to find a way to escape the island.
The game mechanics are very similar to the original Dead Island, maintaining the survival aspect of the game, where players have to search for various weapons and then improve them with different mods to easily kill even the most evolved zombies.
There are many quests that can be accomplished in the game world, and it is recommended to complete as many as possible because most of the times the rewards can make the difference in surviving the enemies.
Theres also a fifth protagonist in the videogame and his name is John Morgan.
There are 61 Dead Island Riptide collectibles scattered around in the videogame and they are divided in five categories:
Their role is to provide players with additional information about the surroundings and about different events that took place on the island, thus being of great importance for the fans that wish to know everything related to the story.
Also, there are many achievements/trophies that can be unlocked by those who manage to get all the Dead Island Riptide Collectables or all in a particular category.
The game world is practically divided in three main areas (the jungle, the ferry station, and Henderson town), but there are also smaller areas that dont feature a map, some of them being important to the main story line.
The Dead Island Riptide collectibles can be found in all kind of places (mostly buildings or manmade constructions/establishments), but there are a few that can be missed because they are in the smaller areas without maps.
Moreover, even if the game is an open world, not all the Dead Island Riptide Collectables can be acquired right from the start, because the player has to unlock all three main areas.
It is recommended to hunt the collectibles as soon as a new area is opened, because the scenery may change in some parts; therefore, increasing the difficulty (note how the cinema entrance from the roof becomes blocked later in the story).
However, some of the collectables can only be found at the end of the game, because they are in locked areas that are story related (there are three collectables that can only be accessed when the player reaches Chapter 13 of the game).
